Awesemo OddsShopper: Wednesday MLB Betting Picks

Sports are back in full swing with an almost overwhelming amount of options to bet on. The NBA card is kind of gross, with all eight teams postseason bound, and not much on the line to play for. So we’ll be passing on hoops, but there are some great MLB spots to lock in on. Here are a couple of my strongest spots on the board for Wednesday’s betting card, along with analysis on the play and the best place to take the bet, courtesy of the Awesemo OddsShopper tool. Let’s get into some MLB betting picks for today’s action.

MLB Betting Picks

Arizona Diamondbacks at Colorado Rockies: Colorado First Five Moneyline (-120)

Antonio Senzatela is off to a strong start in 2020 with a 3-0 record and a 2.65 ERA. He allowed just four hits and one run to the Padres (the fourth-ranked offense in MLB) in his lone start at Coors so far this season. The Rockies are 3-0 to the first-five moneyline (and run line) in Senzatela’s starts, leading by an average of 2.3 runs after the fifth. The Diamondbacks are still one of the worst offenses in baseball, particularly on the road. Despite the seven runs on Tuesday, it really struggled facing quality starting pitching, scoring just once in the first six innings.

But the stronger half of this play is simply fading Luke Weaver. He’s 0-3 with a 12.19 ERA, giving up six runs in each of his first two starts, and two runs in his next start, on a short leash against the Padres. Weaver is now 0-3 on the first-five moneyline and run line, with Arizona trailing by an average of 4.3 runs after the fifth. If Weaver is pulled early, it’s probably a good thing for the position of the bet, but Colorado has also been smashing Arizona’s 23rd-ranked bullpen in this series, scoring eight runs in each game.

PointsBet is offering the most competitive moneyline price on the Rockies at an impressive -105. You can start there when scanning for the best first-five lines. I don’t trust bullpens at Coors to get the outcome we want.

Minnesota Twins at Milwaukee Brewers: Minnesota First Five -0.5 (Even)

Kenta Maeda has allowed just five runs in 17 innings this season, going 3-0 to the first-five moneyline and run line. The Twins offense ranks second in first-five runs scored and has given him tremendous run support in his starts — 18 total runs in Maeda’s three outings.

That’s not good news for Eric Lauer, who got blown off the mound in his last start, surrendering six runs in three innings to the Reds. Lauer got an early hook in his first start of the season, going 2.2 innings but leaving Milwaukee’s bullpen in an awful spot — it wound up trailing 5-1 after the fifth. The Brewers rank 23rd on offense and average just 3.86 runs per game at home this season. If we focus on just the first five innings, the Brewers rank dead last in baseball offensively.

PointsBet also offers the best price on the Twins when we focus on the full game run line at -1.5 (+120). So we might be able to one-stop-shop on these two games. But first-five lines can vary, so make sure you check all books if you do plan to lock this one in.
