The Bears enter this game as the most disrespected one-loss team, being underdogs by a full touchdown. As always, the Chicago defense is tough, giving up just 19.3 points per game despite playing the offenses of the Panthers, Buccaneers and Falcons. They allow the lowest completion percentage in the league at just 57.08 percent. There is zero doubting this defense, but the offense has done little to impress.
Nick Foles is inconsistent as the starting quarterback of the Bears, and the players around him and the scheme are not good enough to consistently overcome it. As a unit, they average the third-worst yards per play in the league at 4.8. While the Rams may not have as explosive of an offense as they have in the past, Chicago will need to find some kind of success to win this game.
The Rams are coming off a loss the the 49ers in which Jared Goff looked like the quarterback from last season, which is not a compliment. He completed just 19 of 38 passes and again showed he can crumble when pressured. Clearly, this is bad news with Khalil Mack and company coming to town. Still, Sean McVay should have a plan to combat this, likely featuring the players underneath more often.
While we talked about how good the Bears’ scoring defense is, the Rams rank even higher. They allow just 19 points per game, and they could be a tough matchup for Chicago tonight. Aaron Donald will continue to wreck havoc up front, and Jalen Ramsey is expected to shadow Allen Robinson all game long. The big question about tonight’s game is asking if the Bears have enough offense outside of Robinson, with him likely to be taken away for much of the game.
