Venue: Soldier Field – Chicago, IL
Coverage:Â ESPN
After a tough start to the season, the Vikings have strung together back-to-back divisional wins, and tonight they are favored to make it three in a row. Still, this game should be tougher for Minnesota than much of the media and general public are making it out to be. The Vikings will be without cornerbacks Mike Hughes, Holton Hill, Cameron Dantzler and Mark Fields. So, while the Packers could pass due to weather and the Lions struggled after Matthew Stafford was out all week, this could be a dangerous spot against Nick Foles and a Bears offense that now has Bill Lazor calling plays. We know Foles will take shots downfield. The question is if he will hit them.
On the other side, the Bears are also not healthy. Running back David Montgomery is out with a concussion, meaning Cordarrelle Patterson, Lamar Miller and Ryan Nall will also see time in the backfield. Chicago also has a number of injuries along their offensive line, making a struggling unit even worse. With the Vikings allowing just 4.2 yards per carry, it should be a pass-heavy approach for the Bears tonight. But will a one-dimensional approach benefit the depleted Vikings secondary due to their ability to win up front with a light box?
The other storyline is the Vikings’ struggles at Soldier Field. Since Mike Zimmer has taken over as coach, the Vikings are just 2-4 in Chicago. The Bears are 16-3 over their last 19 meetings with Minnesota at home.
