We kicked off the month of May with a bang on Saturday, nailing all three of our featured NBA betting picks. Kendrick Nunn cruised over 14.5 points, Russell Westbrook stayed comfortably under 11.5 assists and Malachi Flynn got over 3.5 rebounds.

R.J. Barrett Under 19.5 Points
Barrett shone brightly for the Knicks on Sunday in a win over the Rockets. The trouble is Tom Thibodeau had him on the floor for over 40 minutes. So while 21 points, seven rebounds, five assists and two steals look great, it seems fair to question just how much Barrett will play and be capable of on Monday. While almost any coach would likely reduce his workload in the second game of this back-to-back, Thibodeau beats by his own drum. Yet even if Barrett sees a high minutes load once again, there is still appeal in betting under the NBA betting line of 19.5 points.

On the season, Barrett is averaging 17.7 points per game. That mark sits nearly two whole points below tonight’s NBA player props total. While Barrett has scored over 20 points in each of the last two and four of the last six games overall, he has also played 38 minutes or more in all of those contests. None of the games in which he went over 20 points was the second leg of a back-to-back. In the one recent scenario that compares to the one Barrett and the Knicks face tonight, the result further bolsters the outlook of betting the under. Thibodeau willingly played Barrett over 40 minutes on both April 20 and 21. In the latter outing, Barrett shot just 6-for-18 and scored 16 points. A similar outing against the Grizzlies tonight seems more likely than not.
Isaiah Stewart Under 10.5 Assists
Is anyone dressing for the Pistons tonight? That’s actually a legitimate question to ask. A whopping seven Detroit players have already been declared out for Monday’s matchup against the Magic. An eighth, Hamidou Diallo, is currently listed as day-to-day. The injury situation has caused the NBA betting market to shift its juice to the over on several NBA player props involving those Pistons who are active tonight. This includes Stewart’s rebounding prop, which is currently set at 10.5. This sets up the ultimate “zig while the others zag” scenario.

Yes, his fellow frontcourt teammates Mason Plumlee and Jerami Grant are among the myriad of Pistons that have been ruled out for tonight’s contest. Stewart played 27 minutes and only managed to snare two boards. While he will likely have more than that tonight, exceeding 10.5 is a whole different story.
P.J. Dozier Under 3.5 Rebounds
Given the depleted state of the Nuggets frontcourt in the wake of injuries to Jamal Murray, Will Barton and Monte Morris, Dozier has seen a major uptick in playing time recently. On the season, he is averaging 3.7 rebounds per game. That sits just a hair over tonight’s NBA betting line of 3.5. Meanwhile, the juice to play over 3.5 boards for Dozier in tonight’s game has exceeded $1.50 at all sportsbooks. Apparently “zigging where the others are zagging” is the NBA betting picks motto of the day.
Even though he has seen an uptick in minutes recently, Dozier’s ability to exceed his season rebounding average and tonight’s NBA player props line has been sporadic at best. In fact, he has finished with three rebounds or fewer in four of the Nuggets’ last six games. At the same time, he has been regularly going over his season assist average as he has split duties at the point with Facundo Campazzo. Taking on more of a role as a distributor might be leading to Dozier being less impactful on the glass than he otherwise would be. Add in a matchup tonight against a top-10 rebounding team in the Lakers, and plus-money on the under here has a real chance of hitting.
