How to Bet Sixers vs. Celtics Tonight: Expert Betting Picks & NBA Player Props 12/20/21

What an absolute mess. The NBA already postponed the 76ers-Pelicans game on Sunday, so buyer beware in Boston. Philadelphia certainly needed the extra time as they had ten players on either the injury or COVID list. The Celtics have not been free of their own COVID/injury issues either, but their major players are in the mix tonight against the 76ers. While depth will be an issue for the 76ers – who just signed three guys to fill the void left from COVID – they still have an ailing Joel Embiid and a healthy Tobias Harris. Seth Curry is also one of the lucky to avoid both injury and the virus. Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown still serve as the main force behind everything Boston – both Tatum and Dennis Schroder are questionable. Most of Philadelphia outside of Harris and Curry are also questionable. Thankfully, OddsShopper can help navigate some of the best value on the board, from the game to player props.

First Half Under 109.5 (-110, BetMGM)

OddsShopper has the ability to find first half totals. Both teams are on edge right now and may not even have their top players. Tatum is questionable with injury, as is Embiid. The 76ers dropped three of their last four and cannot get much on offense, meanwhile the Celtics cannot rely on Brown to take over games without Tatum on the floor. If Tatum sits, then this is an absolute lock. Josh Richardson was re-admitted to the health and safety protocols, which is another blow to the Celtics, already down Al Horford. The 76ers lone spot of consistency has come in Tyrese Maxey, but even he is questionable coming into this game Monday night.

Jayson Tatum Under 28.5 Points (-106 FanDuel)

With his status still questionable it is worth looking at the OddsShopper’s player props page and taking advantage of this prop being a little high for Tatum. This bet has an expected win rate of 67 percent of hitting the under, which factors in our projections and how healthy Tatum really is heading into tonight. Tatum will most likely defer to Brown as the latter’s minutes are increasing. With Boston being banged up it is still a reasonable expectation that Tatum will finish in the mid-20s, but to dominate the 76ers with a bad ankle when Philadelphia is most healthy at the 4/5, seems like a stretch.

The Latest Sports Betting Content from Stokastic Odds

Marcus Smart Under 12.5 Points (+100 FanDuel)

Smart is one of the healthy ones on the Celtics and people may think he gets a boost in shooting volume. Do not expect that to be the case – especially if the Celtics are fielding the majority of their starters. This bet has an expected win rate of 64% of going under, with an expected ROI of 20%. Make sure you are using OddsShopper to take advantage of the best value in player props of guys who are not dealing with COVID. Expect Brown to vulture more scoring opportunities as he gets healthier, plus Smart’s matchup is not exactly an easy one going up against Maxey and Matisse Thybulle. Alex and Awesemo has Smart projected for 11 points.

Tobias Harris Over 7.5 Rebounds (-120 FanDuel)

The 76ers have a small advantage in this game tonight and that is on the boards. With Tatum’s ankle hanging over this game and Horford on the COVID list, there are less options to keep Harris off the boards. Harris should be able to sneak in on offensive possessions and be good for 1-2 offensive boards. Awesemo has Harris projected for 8.4 rebounds, but he has struggled recently to go over that number. He is at his best rebounding the ball when he is asked to do less scoring. A healthy Embiid and the overpowering matchup he has on the Celtics should open things up for Harris. OddsShopper gives us the ability to sort by specific teams, so make sure you are constantly taking advantage of updated odds on teams like Philadelphia dealing with COVID.

Long Shot: 3-Way Win Margin – 76ers to Win by 6+ (+235 DraftKings)

This bet is worth a unit on this as a third option was thrown in to boost the odds of this margin of victory. Embiid is good enough to dominate a banged up/COVID depleted front court. While his ankle is bothering him, Embiid has the range to become an outside shooter and stretch a lot of the floor. Expect Embiid to also get to the line as much as possible, which takes advantage of his physical domination and some pressure off his ankle. This is the Embiid bet.
