How to Bet Bucks vs. Nets Tonight: Best NBA Bets, Predictions & Player Props 1/7/22

The Nets return home following a road victory at Indiana, which also marked the season debut for Kyrie Irving. The win stopped a three-game skid for the Nets, all at home. Brooklyn is healthy, down only Irving and Joe Harris, so expect the usual rollout of dominant Kevin Durant and James Harden. The Bucks are not as fortunate heading into this game as they are down a couple of key players, starting with Jrue Holiday. Milwaukee is also down Grayson Allen and Pat Connaughton, as all three are out with COVID. The good news is Giannis Antetokounmpo has returned from a non-COVID illness to try and stop a two-game losing streak.

Bucks +5 (-110, FanDuel)

OddsShopper found one book with the extra half point on Milwaukee. That is a great number for a team that may not be as weak as they seem, especially with Giannis roaming the floor. The Nets are top-heavy but what else is new, as the absence of Irving at home will continue to have its impact. Brooklyn has not been playing exceptional basketball to say the least, losing three straight, including at home to the Clippers, before a win against the Pacers. The Nets have looked for a consistent third threat far too often, and teams have caught up to Patty Mills and LaMarcus Aldridge. This game should be close, coming down to a final possession or free throws to extend a lead.

James Harden Under 25.5 Points (-112, FanDuel)

Harden is going to have his hands full as the Bucks will throw everything possible at the Nets guard. Awesemo has Harden projected 22.9 points, so the bet has a 66% chance that it goes over on OddsShopper. The Nets are healthier in the backcourt so Harden may be more of a facilitator, taking advantage of some open players on the floor. He can also get by pretty much anyone in the NBA, so expect a lot of help defense collapsing on Harden and allowing him to find an open shooter. There is also the possibility that Harden is simply in a shooting slump and will not snap out of it against the Bucks. He has failed to hit 20 points in each of his last two games but not for a lack of trying, with 12 and 14 attempts from the floor.

Bobby Portis Over 14.5 Points (-122, FanDuel)

The Bucks are going to lean on Bobby Portis for a little more scoring tonight, with Giannis still dealing with a lingering injury and the team down two scorers. This play correlates well with taking the Bucks, as it will not just be Khris Middleton and Giannis scoring every bucket. The Bucks backcourt is decimated so expect less scoring coming from their guards and more of an effort to move the ball where the Nets are weaker. Portis gives the Bucks a chance to get in the high teens and impact this game. OddsShopper has this as a 62% chance of going over with an expected ROI of 15% on the return. Awesemo has Portis down for 16.1 points, so there is a nice gap to play with between the books and Awesemo’s projections.

Giannis Antetokounmpo Over 29.5 Points (-120, PointsBet)

There are a couple of ways to play Giannis in the points market tonight, the first by just taking his over at 29.5. It requires laying -120 on the play, which is not terrible, but the expected ROI on OddsShopper is impacted. It has a decent win rate of 52%, but it is based on projections of 29.8 points on the night. Those who do not like the process of balancing a tight projection with only a -120 return can head to FanDuel and play another wager on Giannis. The 35+ alternate line returns +186, and the 40+ line is at +490. Both require Giannis to go over his projections, but not an unreasonable ask. There is no way Milwaukee can hang in this game without a monster night from Giannis. The Nets are not going to slow him down with any combination of players, and Giannis is healthy enough to play. Bettors can build a tower and play all three, banking on a big night from Milwaukee’s brightest star.

Khris Middleton 4+ 3-Pointers (+200, FanDuel)

The Long-Distance Launch finds Middleton in a fortuitous situation with so many shooters out around him. Not having Holiday, Connaughton, and Allen allow more looks from the outside for Middleton. He comes off a 1-3 night which was a low mark over the past five games, so he has some launch in him. Nobody down low is going to take possessions and shots away from Middleton. The Bucks would be doing themselves a massive disservice by ignoring the mismatch they have with Middleton shooting from the outside.
