Nets vs. Knicks Best Bets Wednesday 4/6/22

No days off for Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant as the Brooklyn Nets have their sights set on catching the Cavaliers for the seventh seed, the top spot for the play-in games. First up is beating the already eliminated Knicks at Madison Square Garden, a light travel day for the Nets and another favorable matchup. For the Knicks, playing spoiler is all that is left on a lost season. Maybe their in-city rival coming to town can ignite a spark, but it has been a miserable season for the Knicks, despite winning six of their last 10 games. Julius Randle and his quad injury headline a bunch of Knicks players not expected to go, as Randle has not played since March 30th.

Things are a little different for the Nets, who have all hands on deck for this playoff push. Irving and Durant are looking to close out this four-game series with a sweep over the Knicks, despite there being close victories in the three prior wins. The Nets are three games over the .500 mark and 1.5 games behind the Cavs. It is the second leg of a back-to-back for Brooklyn after handling the Rockets last night. Seth Curry missed the past two games and is not on the injury report heading into tonight. This should be an interesting test of strengths for both teams as the Nets are ninth in scoring but near the bottom in scoring defense, while the Knicks are sixth in the NBA in scoring defense, and 27th in scoring.

Nets -4.5: -115 (BetMGM)

Brooklyn is in a rather unique situation with their top-level talent far exceeding any other team in the play-in scenario. It was a challenging year for the Nets, who traded away one of their big three and only recently were able to put Irving out at home games. Still, the Nets are surviving, winning just five of their last 10, but it is hard to ignore two guys in Irving and Durant who can still take over any game at any point, anywhere on the planet. The line is reduced, thanks to OddsShopper for buying a half point with no shift in juice, because the Nets have not pulled away from the rest of the mediocre pack. The Knicks are not in any position to take advantage of that either, and it is not like the Nets are limping their way into the postseason. Nothing from a trends standpoint would put the Nets even close to covering this line, let alone winning the game. Brooklyn has dropped 10 straight games on the second leg of a back-to-back and failed to cover the spread in five straight games. All that means is a reduced line for the far better team: the one with Kevin Durant.

Obi Toppin Under 1.5 3-Pointers: +100 (FanDuel)

Two of the strongest plays for OddsShopper in this Nets – Knicks game are 3-point props. Obi Toppin comes off an impressive night with made 3’s, but both OddsShopper and Awesemo expect some regression. The key here is having the hook to allow Toppin to nail one 3 but stay cool the rest of the night. Awesemo’s free projection has Toppin finishing with 1.1 made 3’s, combined with a 37% xROI and OddsShopper having a 69% chance of hitting this prop.

R.J. Barrett Over 2.5 3-Pointers: +140 (DraftKings)

R.J. Barrett stands to increase his point production without Randle on the floor, and with no real pressure on the Knicks to keep winning. The Knicks backcourt of Alec Burks and Evan Fournier may launch 15 3-pointers between them, but it is still not enough to zap the workload for Barrett, especially after fading Toppin above. OddsShopper has a 54% chance of this prop hitting, along with their 30% xROI rating. Awesemo has Barrett finishing with 2.8 made 3’s against the Nets.

Andre Drummond Over 1.5 Assists: +130 (DraftKings)

The Nets have their top two stars, then a tier of Bruce Brown and Seth Curry below to help with any ancillary scoring. Andre Drummond is expected to have a solid dose of minutes in the middle and has plenty of options to set up for a basket. Awesemo has Drummond finishing with 1.9 dimes on the night combined with OddsShopper 30% xROI on the play. OddsShopper gives this a 56% chance of Drummond hitting at least two assists.
