Knicks vs. Celtics Game Info
New York Knicks (5-8, 3-4 Away) vs. Boston Celtics (8-3, 4-1 Home)
Date: Sunday, Jan. 17, 2021
Time: 1 p.m. EST
Venue: TD Garden — Boston, Mass.
Coverage: NBA TV
The Knicks began the season 5-3, which included a stretch where they won five of six games. However, they have lost all five games since then. Coach Tom Thibodeau has his team playing solid defense, allowing just 106.3 points per game, which ranks fifth in the NBA. However, they simply do not have the offensive firepower to compete with most teams. They average just 101.0 points per game, which is the second-worst in the league. The offense will receive a boost once Alec Burks returns to the lineup. Burks ranks second on the team in scoring (20.7). Unfortunately, he has played just three games and will not be back today.
The Celtics have had a bit of COVID problems in the locker room, to the point were games have been postponed. Jayson Tatum tested positive for the virus last Friday and needs to quarantine for 10 days before he can return, meaning he will be out again today. Everyone has chipped in to keep the Celtics’ head above water, with all of the absences they have endured. Despite constant changes to the lineup, Boston has won each of their last five games, and they have won seven of their last eight. While it’s far from certain, the Celtics could also see Kemba Walker make his season debut this afternoon. He has been practicing and is considered questionable to play. He would likely be limited in his return, but it would move Jeff Teague back to the bench.
