NBA Odds Boosts

Jayson Tatum Scores 26+ Points AND Celtics Win (+300 FanDuel)

What attracted me to this particular odds boost was the lower number on Tatum than we’ve seen from other superstars. The 26 points is far more attainable in my mind than 30 points because of how Boston plays offense, but it is doable in a Game 5 in a tied series. Tatum has shot at least 47% from the floor in six of Boston’s eight playoffs games so far, and he’s scored 24 or more points in five of those games. Tatum is also an excellent free-throw shooter, and if he gets aggressive in Game 5, he can pick up easy points like he did in Game 2 of this series.

The Celtics have been the better team in this series and are a little unlucky to be tied 2-2 instead of leading 3-1. Boston’s team-oriented offense has caused Toronto some issues as the Celtics have shot between 42% and 47% in all four games of this series. The difference has been its 3-point shooting, which really lacked in the last two games. I expect that Boston will be more aggressive in attacking the basket in order to open up the perimeter a bit more, and the Celtics will return to the form that won them the first two games in this series.

Paul George AND Kawhi Leonard Score 25+ Points (+250 BetMGM)

This wager is a long shot because George has really struggled offensively in the postseason, but he has been better in the first two games of this series. In the first two games against Denver, George is averaging 20.5 points and 40.6% shooting, so he’s returning to a more normal form in the bubble. I get the feeling George is poised to have another breakout like he did in Game 5 against Dallas, and after the Clippers lost in Game 2, it makes sense for this to be that time. His monster game against the Mavericks came in a similar situation with the Clippers tied in the series and needing a win to help stifle momentum from the other side.

I won’t spend much time discussing Leonard except to say that he’s scored at least 25 points in every Clippers playoffs game until Saturday. He was shooting 56.2% from the floor in those first seven games and adding on average 7-of-8 from the free-throw line. I have no concerns about whether or not he’ll bounce back quickly to have another big game. He knows how important this game is for his team in the context of the series, and he’ll rise to the occasion per usual.
