NCAA Lacrosse National Championship Betting Odds, Picks & Predictions | 5/31/21

Memorial Day Weekend is always a busy time in the sports world, and 2021 is no different. We are in the thick of the NHL and NBA Playoffs, the French Open just started and the PGA Tour and MLB seasons are in full swing. There is a college national championship game also on deck Monday afternoon, with the NCAA Lacrosse Final starting at 1 p.m. ET. Maryland and Virginia will battle it out for the national title, and although lacrosse betting may not be on bettors’ radars, it present the perfect start to Monday’s betting card. Let’s get into my favorite picks for this championship matchup.

Maryland (-136) vs. Virginia (+108): NCAA Lacrosse Betting Preview & Picks

For those unfamiliar with lacrosse, it’s a high-paced action with subs on the fly and minimal down time. Like hockey, having a hot goaltender can make all the difference, and having a player who can win faceoffs is key since hat determines possession after each goal.

Best Bet: Maryland -136

Maryland comes in undefeated after destroying Duke in the semifinals on Saturday and look to have things rolling at the right time. They have a National Player of the Year candidate in Jared Bernhardt and showed they weren’t a product of an easier Big Ten schedule against the Blue Devils. Winning faceoffs is going to be massive for Maryland, who at times has had some issues at the center dot.

On the other side, Virginia is technically the defending champs, having won the 2019 NCAA tournament. They held off an extremely talented North Carolina team in the semifinals and have an all-around balanced squad. They also have a fantastic faceoff man. To win they need to limit the turnovers (which was a problem in the Final Four) and find a way to contain Maryland’s offense, which basically nobody has done.

Maryland has been the best team all season, and there is no reason to get off them here. They showed the upside against a Duke team many thought would be in this final, and they have the best player on the field in Bernhardt. Virginia was impressive against North Carolina, but like everyone before them, they will have a tough time slowing down Maryland’s offense.

Unless Virginia dominates the faceoff, the Terrapins will complete the magical season with a national championship.
