Simply put, the offense was not there for the Brooklyn Nets in Game 3. They scored just 83 points in the game, shooting 36.2% overall and 8-for-32 from 3-point range. Kevin Durant led the Nets with 30 points, but he shot just 11-for-28. Kyrie Irving scored 22 points on 9-of-22 shooting, and he managed to commit no turnovers. Bruce Brown turned in a solid performance of his own, but there wasn’t much outside of that for the Nets. They really missed James Harden, who can give both Durant and Irving a break while he generates offense by himself in isolation. Unfortunately, he will be out again for this game. Brooklyn ruling him out so early suggests he may still be a ways away from a return, so a win in Game 4 to prevent an even series would be massive for the Nets.
Coach Mike Budenholzer has been criticized for his lack of adjustments and his refusal to play his stars massive minutes in the playoffs. It took until last game, but it’s possible he finally turned a corner. All three of his stars played over 40 minutes, which was just the second time Giannis Antetokounmpo played more than 40 minutes this postseason, and the first was the overtime game. While the stars played minutes and the Bucks got the win, it does not mean Milwaukee played well. They scored just 86 points while shooting 37.8% overall, 6-for-31 from deep and 12-of-19 from the free-throw line. They cannot rely on the Nets being inefficient again, so the Bucks need to start hitting shots if they want to even the series.
