Given their situation of being well over the cap, the Saints will likely have to look to deal one (or more) of their core players such as Michael Thomas, Alvin Kamara, Cameron Jordan and Marshon Lattimore. And they will also have to figure out if they want to move forward with Jameis Winston or Taysom Hill as their quarterback, with the alternative being to join the bevy of teams looking for an upgrade under center.

To put it mildly, the Saints have a lot of work to do before they can reach the mountain top of hoisting the Super Bowl Trophy for the first time since Sean Payton accomplished the feat with Drew Brees in 2010.

It is a lot more likely that New Orleans is preparing to embark on a journey that no fan wants to go through — a rebuild.
