Best Quick NHL Bets Today: Rangers vs. Ducks MoneyLine & Jack Hughes Player Props for 1/8/22

Per usual, Saturday is a full schedule with 11 games in the NHL taking place. The only difference here is we do normally catch some early games but only the Penguins and Dallas start before 7 p.m. ET. With that being the case we get plenty of time to place our NHL bets and plenty of such bets to mull over. To help us expedite that decision making process I’ll use Awesemo’s industry-leading projections along with our newly updated NHL OddsShopper which saves us beaucoup time by giving us the best value on the market for all bets listed. It should be a fun one so let’s get into some picks for tonight.

Rangers MoneyLine vs. Ducks (-115, DraftKings)

At -115 there may not be a more obvious bet on the day than the New York Rangers going into Anaheim facing a team littered with injuries and COVID. The Ducks were forced to cancel their last game against Detroit because of a lack of bodies and today could be the same story but if it’s not I’d expect large movement as the day goes on unless we get major news about players like Trevor Zegras. Along with missing multiple top forwards (and their elite goaltender John Gibson) their numbers defensively have been near the bottom of the league over the past few weeks specifically with an xGA/60 of 2.58.

Conversely, the Rangers have left plenty to be desired at 5v5, which may help control this number overall (and Igor Shesterkin on protocol) but even without one of the league’s best goalies the team from New York is 7-5-2 facing what should be a depleted Ducks roster.

Jack Hughes to Score a Point vs. Jackets (-167, SugarHouse)

The Devils get a home-and-home with the Columbus Blue Jackets with a near full roster — minus Dougie Hamilton of course but it should be of no detriment to the dynamic Jack Hughes who has put up 20 points in 18 games. To help his cause he’ll be facing arguably the worst defensive team in hockey allowing 3.1 goals per 60 at 5v5 on the year — 31st in the league. In addition to that Hughes has Jesper Bratt playing on his wing who has been on a tear himself with 8 points in his last 5 contests.

Being on the road could make his opportunities a bit more difficult but if he’s matched with the Jackets first line which includes the defensively inept Patrik Laine I’m not too concerned as they’ve been beaten across the board when on the ice. Hughes should create plenty of opportunities for a line that has been on a torrid run as of late in a very plus matchup.
