NHL Picks Today: Best Hockey Bets & Player Props

Blues vs. Sabres Over 6.5 (-105, MGM)

The St. Louis Blues travel to Buffalo in a matchup of two teams that are on opposite ends of the playoff spectrum but oddly similar defensively. The Blues, the West’s third-best team with 96 points, has been incredibly fortunate all year long in their own end with an expected goals against per 60 ranking in the bottom five of the league. Along with that, their puck possession has left much to be desired with just over 50% of the puck share all year long, which has led to more than ample opportunities for their opponents. Fortunately for them, they do get a matchup with an equally bad defensive team in the Sabres, who rank slightly higher in expected goals against at just 2.51 per 60 but very much rival the Blues in possession, or lack thereof.

As is evident by the previous mentions, there will be zero to no defense being deployed here as both teams struggle to prevent scoring chances and/or possession. This number and line are similar across all NHL betting markets so the value here lies in the hold percentage with a mark under four. Along with all of that, both teams shoot the puck extremely well, ranking in the top five amongst all teams in the NHL, so goals are to be had.

Tony DeAngelo Anytime Goal Scorer (+500, Caesars)

The Carolina Hurricanes pace the slate with an implied goal total pushing 4.5 facing the Detroit Red Wings. Tony DeAngelo is the very fortunate benefactor as the team’s power play quarterback and top pairing with Jaccob Slavin. On the year, DeAngelo has 10 goals in 56 contests, with two on the power play, coming into tonight’s matchup with the league’s second-worst penalty kill.  Among defensemen, DeAngelo comes in only behind three with a projection of 2.44 shots, so opportunities are to be expected.

DeAngelo is a gifted offensive player that has always produced points, with 47 total on the year. With a great matchup and a ridiculous expected ROI of 72% (next closest 48%) this is not only the best NHL prop bet today but arguably the best overall bet. The Hurricanes will score, and DeAngelo will absolutely be involved one way or another.
