NHL Picks Tonight: Best Hockey Bets & Player Props
Justin Faulk Over 1.5 Shots On Goal (-160, Caesars)
Justin Faulk has a 70% chance of hitting this line facing the New York Rangers, which puts him atop the NHL betting mountain in terms of expected win percentage with a few others. On the season alone, the aggressive defenseman has averaged over two shots on net per contest and comes in with a projection of 2.3 shots. Along with his typical involved nature, the Minnesotan has also seen plenty of ice time over the last 10 with 26+ minutes in four contests.
The Rangers have the league’s best goalie in the net and he has become such because of the Rangers’ inability to stop opponents at 5 vs. 5. For the year, they are 28th overall in Corsi against per 60 at 58.61, even below the league’s doormat in Montreal. Igor Shesterkin may be able to stop 95% of shots, but thankfully that is of no worry, as the defenseman looks primed to convert here.

Matt Duchene Any Goal Scorer (+750, PointsBet)
Taking a delve into the goal-scoring pool feels a little strange, but as someone who cannot swim, you just have to dive in sometimes. Matt Duchene is an expected 34% winner here taking on the porous Ducks defense with the highest expected ROI on the entire NHL betting slate. The Ducks have been better than anyone expected defensively, ranking middle of the pack in most metrics but regression would seem likely for their penalty kill, as they have gotten the best goaltending in the league when shorthanded from their tandem of John Gibson and Anthony Stolarz.
Duchene is projected for .4 goals on the evening, which does not sound like much but when combined with the very favorable odds and plus matchup there is no better high-risk bet on the market. Banking on power plays is high risk but the Ducks have obliged much of the year taking over 3.5 minors per game, which should give Duchene ample opportunities to score here.
Zach Werenski Over 2.5 Shots on Goal (-170, Caesars)
Zach Werenski is back in the fold after missing a couple of games for the Jackets facing the Islanders and looks primed to cash in here. The talented defenseman is projected for 3.4 shots on target tonight, which makes him incredibly favorable in terms of short odds bets at this number. For the year, Werenski has averaged over three shots per game and now faces an Islanders squad in the bottom third of the league across the board in possession metrics, including just a 47% shot share at even strength.
Werenski is basically a lock for 26 minutes every night and has picked up the shot volume recently as well, with 19 shots over his last five tilts. Taking the short odds is not exciting but we are entering lock status here.
