Quick NHL Best Bets: Capitals vs. Flyers Under & Victor Hedman Player Props for 12/21/21

There are two games on Tuesday night as of the morning, with the extended break looming to hopefully contain the spread of sick players across the league. Of the four teams playing tonight, only Washington has felt much of the brunt from COVID, with a roster that looks competitive in junior hockey. The plan of the NHL is to play these two games regardless, so let’s make some NHL betting picks.

Capitals vs. Flyers Under Six (-113, SugarHouse)

There has not been much line movement in the NHL betting market. The Flyers look to continue their nice run since Mike Yeo took over, going up against the depleted Capitals. The Flyers have won four of six games with Yeo at the helm while doing a decent job of keeping opponents out of the net, allowing just 16 goals in that time frame. Their improved defense should help keep the Capitals off the board while they deploy a lineup missing four of its top six forwards, including Nicklas Backstrom and Evgeny Kuznetsov. The Flyers are also not completely unscathed, as Kevin Hayes joined the COVID protocols on Monday.

The Flyers offense has allowed the 23rd-most expected goals, while the Capitals are seventh. But as it stands, neither team looks poised to light it up. With the extended break looming, these guys may just be going through the motions to get their holiday break underway.

Victor Hedman to Score a Goal (+360, SugarHouse)

Few defensemen are as consistent as the Lightning’s all-world power-play quarterback, Victor Hedman. Averaging just over a point per game in 2021, he has continued his impressive career. Facing an extremely weak defensive side in Vegas should provide ample opportunity, as on the year the Knights are bottom third of the NHL in every defensive metric known to man, including 2.58 expected goals allowed per 60.

Unlike the other matchup, this game is not devoid of talent, even with a few players out (watch the status of Mark Stone). This should be a track meet game with the Lightning’s propensity to take penalties and the Knights’ inability to prevent scoring chances. With over 24 minutes of ice time per game this year, no one should get more chances to be involved than Hedman.
