Nuggets vs. Trail Blazers Game Info

Denver Nuggets (50-27, 23-15 Away) vs. Portland Trail Blazers (44-33, 21-17 Home)
Date: Thursday, June 3, 2021
Start Time: 8 p.m. EST
Venue: Moda Center — Portland, Ore.
Coverage: TNT

After laying a total dud in Game 4 on the road, the Nuggets bounced back in a huge way on Tuesday to take a 3-2 series lead. It comes as no surprise that Nikola Jokic led the way with what was easily his best game of the playoffs to date. He fell just shy of a triple-double, finishing with 38 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists. Unlike Game 4 and some of the earlier games in this series, he got plenty of help from multiple players. Michael Porter Jr. came in with a double-double of his own, ending with 26 points and 12 rebounds. Monte Morris did significant damage as well, scoring 28 points. Even Aaron Gordon checked in with a double-double. Such a team-wide effort is something that Denver will look to maintain going forward.

Damian Lillard remains one of the most underappreciated superstars in the NBA. He went bananas in Game 5, finishing with 55 points, 10 assists and six rebounds. Unfortunately for him and the Trail Blazers, the performance could not keep them from losing the game. C.J. McCollum had a solid 18 points, seven rebounds seven assists effort, while both Robert Covington and Jusuf Nurkic posted double-doubles. Even after that heartbreaking loss, the Blazers have the respect of the NBA betting odds prior to Thursday’s Game 6. Portland will go off as a favorite on their home court in a series that deserves to go a full seven games.

Nuggets vs. Trail Blazers Prediction

No matter what the final outcome may be, this has arguably been the most compelling series of the opening round of the playoffs. The Nuggets deserve all of the credit for weathering the Lillard storm that struck on Tuesday and managing to pull out a victory. The question now becomes whether the supporting cast around Jokic is capable of pulling off a similar performance on the road. It is certainly fair to expect a better showing from Porter and others than what they offered in Game 4. However, it also seems far-fetched to rely on getting the same caliber of production several Nuggets provided in Game 5. Lillard isn’t letting the Blazers get eliminated on their home floor. Look for this one to be a close, back-and-forth game before Lillard strikes in the fourth quarter.

Prediction: Trail Blazers -4.5
