NBA Odds
James Harden Makes 5+ 3-Pointers (+150 BetMGM)
Harden is never afraid to pull up and shoot the ball, so any wager on him making 3-pointers is always in play for odds boosts. This number would be a lot better at four or 4.5, but five is not an unreasonable number in this situation. Harden has only made at least five 3-pointers in 32 of the 73 games he’s played so far this season, but he’s done it twice in five games this series. His scoring is a main reason the Rockets are leading this series in the first place, as he’s topped 30 points in four of the first five games with Oklahoma City.
Despite two awful shooting performances from behind the arc, Harden is still shooting 35% from 3-point range in this series, including 10-of-23 in his last two games. Russell Westbrook‘s return limited the number of chances Harden received in Game 5, but I don’t expect that to be a problem because he still averaged 12.4 3-point attempts this season. If he takes that many tonight, he’ll only need to shoot 40% in order to hit his five 3-pointers for the game. That seems rather doable among NBA picks with Harden playing in an elimination game on a team that still relies on him to score a lot.
NHL Odds
Nathan MacKinnon Scores AND Avalanche Wins (+275 DraftKings)
The Avalanche are in deep trouble against the Stars, and they need their best players to rise to the occasion to keep their season alive. MacKinnon has registered a point in every single playoff game the Avalanche have played this season and has multiple points in half of those 12 contests. He’s a dynamic scoring machine with seven goals and 14 assists, so he’s always around the action when good things happen for Colorado. It’s hard to expect anything less now that MacKinnon is in a win-or-go-home situation.
What makes these NHL odds tricky is the second part of the wager, which requires the Avalanche to actually beat Dallas tonight. Colorado has struggled defensively in this series, and Pavel Francouz has not risen to the occasion in goal after Philipp Grubauer‘s injury. Even if MacKinnon and the offense score goals, it will come down to whether or not Colorado can keep pucks out of its own net. The Avalanche are certainly beat up on the back end in addition to being down their starting goalie, but it’s worth it to risk that Colorado can outscore Dallas in one game. The Avalanche have better offensive weapons and are playing with desperation, which could be enough to extend their season a little longer.
