Odds Boosts To Watch: NBA Odds + NHL Odds | Tuesday August 25, 2020

Odds boosts are exactly that: Promotions from sportsbooks where they move tin your favor on certain bets. Many of them are prop bets, hoping you’ll put a few dollars on someone to hit a home run or a certain team to score a certain number of goals and still win. Our job is to highlight some of those NBA odds boosts and give you some NBA picks to bet on, if it’s smart to buy into what the sportsbooks are selling. We scour the internet trying to find the best odds boosts for you every day from every sport.

We’re sticking with the postseason theme today with a pair of NBA picks and one from the NHL’s second round. The NBA bets are from each of the Western Conference matchups tonight. NBA Odds

Luka Doncic Scores 30+ Points (+100 PointsBet)

This wager is on here because these odds flipped from -130 to +100 due to this boost, and it’s hard to pass that up. Doncic has just been electric in this series, and no matter what the Clippers tried to do to slow him down, he just continues to score in bunches. If Kristaps Porzingis returns to the lineup for Dallas that will mean fewer shots for Doncic, but that won’t stop Doncic from taking the important shots in crunch time.

Doncic has scored 28 points or more in three of the four games so far in this series, and he’s scored at least 25 points in every game in which he’s played at least 30 minutes since the restart. If you exclude Game 3 when he hurt his ankle and tried to play through it, Doncic is shooting 56.5% from the floor and he’s made 43.5% of his 3-point attempts. Given the NBA odds boost PointsBet generously gave us, it makes sense to bet on Doncic to have another big game for the Mavericks.

Nikola Jokic and Rudy Gobert 25+ Rebounds Combined (+210)

We talk about offense so much that we sometimes forget the power of a great defender or gritty rebounder. Jokic is lauded more for his offensive capabilities, but he’s a pretty good defender and rebounder as well. The glass has been where Gobert has been able to make a large impact for Utah in this series with back-to-back double-doubles. In the regular-season portion of the bubble, Gobert averaged 11 rebounds per game, which translates to roughly 12.8 rebounds per game in the 37 minutes he’s averaged in this series.

That puts us halfway to the target number, and Jokic will have plenty of shots to clean up with how often both of these teams are going to shoot the basketball. Jokic is not as strong a rebounder as Gobert, but he also knows how important it will be for him to limit Gobert’s effectiveness on the glass for the Nuggets to extend the series, thereby creating a race for more rebounds tonight. It’s certainly on the riskier end of NBA picks, but it’s not often sportsbooks offer this type of NBA odds, and it’s a great chance to take advantage of Denver’s desperation facing elimination.

Boston Bruins AND Tampa Bay Lightning Score in First Period (+250 FanDuel)

After the way Game 1 ended Sunday night, these two teams will be ready to go from the opening faceoff tonight. Tampa Bay was the more dominant team for most of the last 40 minutes, but it was Boston who scored once in each period and kept the Lightning off the scoreboard until midway through the third period. The Lightning will be anxious to get off to a much better start in Game 2, but the Bruins will be ready to counter with a veteran bunch.

If Tampa Bay can put pressure on Boston like it did for long stretches in the second and third periods Sunday then the Lightning will break through Jaroslav Halak in the first 20 minutes. But the Lightning’s aggressiveness will lead to some penalties as well, and Boston’s top power play unit is among the best in the NHL right now. Even if the Bruins don’t go to a man advantage, their top two lines were clicking against Tampa Bay in Game 1 and could easily score at even strength as well.
