NHL Betting Picks: Saturday’s Best Bets + Odds

The Detroit-Florida Game (Yes, Detroit has been awful)

Florida Panthers vs Detroit Red Wings  The one thing that Florida and Detroit games often feature is goals. Now, what was strange was the five-goal first period on Friday night then almost a 20-minute lull. In the end, both teams combined for nine goals with Florida scoring seven. Now, the question is what does Florida have left in the tank?

Detroit suffers from awful goaltending whether it is Thomas Greiss or Jonathan Bernier. However, they have shown some flashes lately of playing a little better. That has often come when Bernier is in net as opposed to Greiss. Bernier is projected to start this evening. Florida is 6-0-1 away from home and Detroit is 2-5-2 at home while losing three straight.

The only good news is that Sergei Bobrovsky is expected to start for Florida. That means a goalie with a 3.33 goals-against average and sub. 900 save percentage. Florida will give up more chances with him in net (32 shots per 60 as well), and they are a bottom-third penalty kill which takes a few more minors than the average team.

The Latest Sports Betting Content from Stokastic Odds

Detroit’s offense performs as such a woeful rate but could muster two or three goals here. They are 30th in the league at 1.95 goals per game and dead last when it comes to special teams.

Currently, the puckline for Detroit and Florida are something not recommended. There exists little or no value and would be negative money to bet here. Even the moneyline for Florida is a bit high at -175 with Bobrovsky likely in net. Just watch to see who starts in net for both teams. That will dictate a little more line movement perhaps.

The over/under looks to be best value in this game. The under of 5.5 is at -115 and relatively steady. That may only be an option if it stays near -120 to -125. There is also no over six option and this is a good thing. This is a bit surprising but hey, it is a low number being dangled from an NHL betting perspective. Let’s take the bait one more time.

The over at 5.5 is the plan for now until more information comes out on goaltending and line shifts.

The Outdoor Game

COLORADO AVALANCHE vs VEGAS GOLDEN KNIGHTS  (over 5.5) — Again, the total here is at -110 which is surprising for an outdoor game. Vegas and the Avalanche tend to play towards the under so this involves some risk. However, Tuesday night featured a few more goals (five combined) and honestly the over probably should have hit given the quality scoring chances.

The Vegas Golden Knights and Colorado Avalanche are playing at Lake Tahoe. This outdoor ice rink was greeted with a fresh snowfall last night and colder than normal temperatures.

The Knights always have trouble with the Avalanche but goals should not be a problem. The Knights will want to get off to a quick start this afternoon, which should increase the pace on both sides. Even looking at the first period over/under may be worth one’s while.

Take the risk with the over here, as it is expected to stay at 5.5. The ideal betting range is around -105 to -115. If that strays, then do not bet it. The puckline stands at a number far too high on both sides to make a wager on. There carries too much risk given most every meeting lately has featured a one goal margin.

Notable Score And Other NHL Betting Picks

The night-game pucklines do not look very appealing at this time. It might be best to wait for numbers to move a bit more. For some anytime goal-scoring props, look at Max Pacioretty at +180as well as Gabriel Landeskog at +245.

Shot props with Pacioretty at the over of 3.5 is one to take with Aleksander Barkov at an over 2.5

More player props expect to be available later in the day, but among shot totals, look towards the Montreal-Toronto and Calgary-Edmonton games.
