Whether you are a pro making your own PGA betting picks or just getting into the game, betting on golf provides a great way to sweat the action. Like most other professional sports, there are plenty of ways you can bet on golf; with outright winners, head-to-head matchups and plenty more, golf betting offers a wide array of PGA odds and wagers. There will certainly be an edge to be found each and every week, and next up is the Genesis Invitational.
Our PGA betting series consists of three articles:
- Outrights & Each Way (this one)
- Head-to-Head Matchups
- Jason’s Bet of the Day (stole this idea from Awesemo’s own Ben Rasa): Normally in-tournament matchups
Before we dive headfirst into my foursome of picks for this week, I want to make sure that we define terms for those of you who are brand new.
Outright: A bet that is placed on a golfer to win the tournament.
Each Way: A bet that covers a golfer for the top-five, top-10 and top-20 bets offered.
Article Results (Four Picks Per Week)
20 Total Picks:
- Wins: 1
- Top-5’s: 3
- Top-10s: 5
- Top-20s: 11
Well, we finally got across the finish line, and of course, it had to be with one of my notoriously faded golfers, Daniel Berger. Matthew NeSmith also getting inside the top 20 provided a fantastic return for the week, which would have gotten even better had Akshay Bhatia not played awfully on Sunday and moved out of all the placement points. That brings our return up to about 25% for the year. It was maybe not the best of returns, but not too shabby at all.
PGA Betting Picks: Genesis Invitational
Bryson DeChambeau
Outright: 17-1 | Top 5: 3.5-1 | Top 10: +164 | Top 20: -136
While DeChambeau doesn’t fit the trend of missed cut being needed to win a PGA Tour event right now, he’s the longest odds out of anyone in the upper echelon of players, so for me it’s an easy click. As well as Dustin Johnson is playing, I’m not sure if DeChambeau should really be three times as long in the odds markets. I’ll look to take advantage of Johnson making the odds much longer for his competitors, starting with DeChambeau.

Collin Morikawa
Outright: 33-1 | Top 5: 7-1 | Top 10: 3-1 | Top 20: +138
After getting a new putting grip and a spot of rest, Morikawa is here at his longest odds of the year. Having played at this venue in college and last year, he should have all the practice he needs. The last time we saw Morikawa at these types of odds was at the PGA Championship, which he won. I’ll be comfortable backing this star at these levels at pretty much any tournament on tour. The only thing that might hold him back this week is that new putting grip, but coming into the week ranked 190th in strokes gained putting, he cannot get much worse.
Doug Ghim
Outright: 200-1 | Top 5: 33-1 | Top 10: 14-1 | Top 20: 5.5-1
While missing out on his first top five and top 10 on tour a few weeks ago, I don’t want to miss out on the second one. Ghim has certainly found his stride during the second year of his PGA Tour career. Admittedly, he was helped by the stop in play due to COVID last year, giving him another year’s worth of tournaments. He’s made the most of it and is now in a prime position to retain his card.
Bomb of the Week: Chez Reavie
Outright: 250-1 | Top 5: 40-1 | Top 10: 16-1 | Top 20: 4.5-1
Interestingly enough, Reavie’s odds are not longer than Ghim’s except for the top 20. Who knows exactly why that is, but Reavie is coming off of his best finish this year, where his putting finally turned a corner. His ball-striking this year had been fine, ranking inside the top 25 in strokes gained on the approach, but his putter had been terrible. Now that that’s flipped, I’m ready to back him at a course where he’s had two top-10s in the past five years.
