Valero Texas Open PGA Predictions & Betting Picks
In this weekly article, Awesemo’s golf experts will give their expert PGA Tour picks this week, as well as going over the best odds and their favorite golf betting predictions for the Valero Texas Open.
Ben Rasa’s Pick: Abraham Ancer
Outright: 22-1 (DraftKings)
It hasn’t been the best year for Abraham Ancer, but with plenty of season left I am looking to buy low. Ancer still has made four of his last five cuts, and the off-tee numbers continue to be a strong part of his game. His ability to gain off the tee without being long in distance should serve him well at a course that doesn’t put a huge emphasis on the long ball. He seems to like the greens here, having gained strokes putting every time he has teed it up at this event, so the pieces are there for a big-time finish. The 22-1 didn’t jump off the page, but the more I dug in the more this looks like a spot for Ancer to have the best finish of his year, and he deserves a look in the outright market as one of the top PGA picks this week.
Jason Rouslin’s Pick: Jordan Spieth & Bryson DeChambeau
Top American: Spieth 8-1 & DeChambeau 22-1 (DraftKings)
A rather weak field gets even weaker when you take out Rory McIlroy, Corey Conners, Abraham Ancer and plenty more quality non-American golfers. So to take advantage of that, we look to the two best American players in the field: Jordan Spieth and Bryson DeChambeau. DeChambeau would be the odds favorite here if he were healthy, which he certainly is getting closer to, and Spieth needs to get motivated a week before his favorite event of the year. We are looking for a 4-1 or 11-1 return for either of them to hit.
Geoff Ulrich’s Pick: Tony Finau
Outright: 40-1 (DraftKings) | Top 5: +750 (DraftKings)
The number on Tony Finau makes him a near auto-bet for me in this field. He’s the same price as Ryan Palmer and over double the odds of Corey Conners. The feeling around Finau is that he’s playing terrible golf, but two of the last three winners at this event have come in with worse recent form, including the aforementioned Conners, who had an impressive string of four missed cuts prior to his Valero win in 2019. The week before a major often has strange results, and it’s also worth noting that Finau reeled off eight birdies in 16 holes last Friday in a 4-2 beat down of Xander Schauffele. He also gained 6.4 strokes on approach just a few starts ago at the Genesis and still ranks as one of the best long to mid-iron players in proximity. If his short game turns (for the better) this week, his current outright number will seem ridiculous come Sunday.

Eric Lindquist’s Pick: Luke List
Outright: 60-1 (DraftKings)
Finau was the first player on the card for this week, but second man in was none other than ball striker extraordinaire Luke List. List already has one victory on the board this season (Farmers), and the recipe was simple: Be competent with the putter. The tee-to-green game continues to be off the charts, and there are hardly any negatives to draw on his Match Play performance, where he secured a win versus Justin Thomas and succumbed to an unfortunate run-in with Austin Country Club buzz saw Kevin Kisner. And with the green complexes being the easiest part about getting around TPC San Antonio, List finding his way on the putting surfaces feels more likely than most other weeks, which could catapult him into contention.
