Ben Rasa’s Pick: Brooks Koepka

Outright: 48-1 (FanDuel)

It is the Players Championship, which means the board is filled with top-end players at reasonable odds. The field strength makes this one of the hardest tournaments to win, and I could make a case for a bunch of elite players in the outright market. Brooks Koepka may not be playing at an elite level, but his four major wins and his resume show he can get it done in the biggest spots. Seeing Koepka at 48-1 was a spot I couldn’t ignore. There are concerns with his consistency, but Koepka still has third- and 16th-place finishes over his last four starts, with a few missed cuts in between. That type of variance can be dangerous but also incredibly profitable now that bettors are getting him at such a good number.

Jason Rouslin’s Pick: Jordan Spieth

Top 5: 11-1 (DraftKings)

We haven’t seen A+ Jordan Spieth yet this season, but one thing is clear: His tee-to-green game is in a much better place than it was even a year ago at this point. So given the expected conditions this week, we need someone that has the ability to be good-to-great in every strokes gained category, and Spieth is that when he is at his best. But he is not in winning form quite yet, so take advantage of an inflated top-five number offered on DraftKings.

Geoff Ulrich’s Pick: Alex Noren

Outright: 100-1 (BetMGM) | Top-5 16-1 (BetMGM)

Alex Noren was one of the first players I looked to this week when the odds came out and was delighted to see triple figures. There have been few better correlations for success at TPC Sawgrass than a strong record at PGA National, and Noren is coming off a fifth-place finish at the Honda from two weeks ago — his second top-five finish at PGA National since 2018. He has looked excellent in 2022 grabbing a sixth-place at the Waste Management Phoenix Open while gaining strokes on approach in his last five PGA starts. That kind of consistency has been rare for Noren over the last two seasons, and it’s something to take note of. He has twice finished in the top 20 at TPC Sawgrass and entered the final round at this event in 2017 just 2 off the lead. At the very least, his odds in both the outright and placing department look too high, and bad weather will not hurt a player who is well known for liking conditions tough.

Eric Lindquist’s Pick: Sam Burns

Outright: 55-1 (DraftKings)

It had been tough sledding for Sam Burns truthers (see: me) this spring, with three missed cuts heading into the Arnold Palmer Invitational last week. But he may have found a little something at Bay Hill; the ball striking returned, the putter flipped in a major way, and despite losing over a stroke around the green, Burns still collected his first top-10 of 2022. With terrible weather in store for the week, Burns’ ability to spike massive weeks with different elements of his golf game only furthers my desire to invest in the Bermuda specialist. So at the longest odds he has seen in quite some time due to the field’s strength, this feels like a no-brainer add to the betting card.
