Ben Rasa’s Pick: Joaquin Niemann

Outright: 60-1 (DraftKings)

The Genesis Invitational is a strong field, so the top of the board is littered with the world’s best. I would not blame anyone for going towards the top for some outright winners, but that does not mean there is no value in the mid-range odds. Joaquin Niemann has the pedigree to compete anytime he tees it up, and 60-1 odds really stood out in the betting markets. He seems in form with his sixth-place finish at Farmers last time out, and he has some experience at this course. Although the course history results were not great in past years, Niemann struck the ball fine but was negative with the putter in all three trips here. If he can flip that, he should easily get his best result at the Genesis and find himself in contention come Sunday.

Jason Rouslin’s Pick: Rory McIlroy

Outright: 22-1 (DraftKings)

The voice of reason in the professional game, McIlroy has seemingly been on the right side of all public debates for some time now. His game has also started to trend in the right direction, matching up with his public persona, after a reset at the Ryder Cup. He spoke at length about his renewed sense of passion to be the best again, and since that tournament he has had a win, two other top-10s and no missed cuts in five starts. While he has never won here before, starting a card with McIlroy or Xander Schauffele at this price seems like a solid starting point this week.

Geoff Ulrich’s Pick: Jordan Spieth

Outright: 45-1 (FanDuel) | Top 10 +430

This event has typically rewarded players who have shown up to the previous West Coast events on this opening PGA Tour swing. Ten of the last 11 winners at the Genesis Open made their start at either Pebble Beach or Phoenix before winning at Riviera, making previous form in those two events something to hyper-focus on this week. One player who fits that trend well — and has not gone overseas and chased those big Saudi purses — is Jordan Spieth. Spieth put up a runner-up finish just two weeks ago at another poa venue in Pebble Beach, and he has shown good ball striking in his last two events, gaining strokes off the tee in each of his last two starts. When the driver is working for Spieth the rest of his game tends to flow with more confidence. At nearly 50-1, he looks supremely under-valued as an outright target.

Eric Lindquist’s Pick: Bubba Watson

Outright: 35-1 (DraftKings)

After a second in Saudi Arabia and a tie for 14th in Scottsdale, the form for Watson is as good as it has been in some time. That is not to say that he needs form at Riviera, a track where he has collected three wins in just 10 appearances. But it does not hurt that Watson is coming off a week where he gained more than seven strokes with his irons, although he will certainly have to flip the putter to take down another win. He has been a feast or famine at the Genesis in recent years, but at a golf course made for his phenomenal driving and shot-shaping ability, embracing that variance is fine by me.
