Expert PGA Picks & Golf Betting Tips This Week for The British Open | Wednesday, July 14

For the final major of the season, the British Open makes its anticipated return at Royal St. George’s Golf Club (par 70, 7,211 yards), located in Sandwich, Kent, England. This challenging par 70 is located on the coastline, and this will be the 15th time that Royal St. George’s has hosted the British Open. Every week, I use Alex Baker’s Unofficial World Golf Rankings to identify mispriced options in both the PGA DFS and golf betting market. Below are three expert PGA picks and Vegas betting odds this week for British Open betting cards.

Expert PGA Picks & Vegas Odds: The British Open

Much like the standard rankings in golf, Awesemo has come up with the Unofficial World Golf Rankings. We can use these in PGA DFS lineups or to find an edge on our golf betting picks. At Awesemo, the metric is the number of strokes above or below how an average field in a PGA tournament performed. How to weigh these data points is essential, as people love to talk about short form versus long form. Only PGA Tour tournaments are considered right now, and golfers need a minimum of 20 rounds played. Players are not rewarded by more or fewer rounds in the time period.

Marc Leishman (+6600, BetMGM)

In his last start, Leishman had one of his best outings as a ball striker this season, gaining 5.8 strokes tee to green at the Travelers and finishing third. This marks his largest output from tee to green since his fifth-place finish at the Masters, and Leishman always fits the bill for the windy and wet conditions at British Opens.

He nearly took home the Claret Jug in 2015 at St. Andrews, losing in a three-man playoff, and this is one of Leishman’s three top-six finishes at the British Open over the last six years. On the heels of the terrific showing at the Travelers, this is an outstanding price for Leishman at his favorite tournament.

Harris English (+7000, PointsBet)

Very few are playing better golf than English heading into this major. At the Travelers three weeks ago he picked up his second win and seventh top-10 of the season. The week prior English put on a ball-striking clinic at the South Course of Torrey Pines, resulting in a third-place finish at the U.S. Open. This is his best major finish to date, and over these two starts English produced 8.1 strokes from tee to green.

Additionally, he ranks fourth in fewest bogeys over the last eight rounds. This bodes well for him at the British Open this week, where nine of the last 10 players to win this major have ranked inside the top 10 in bogeys avoided during their victories. English ranks eighth in total strokes gained across his last 50 rounds on par 70s and is worth the play at these long odds.

Guido Migliozzi (+1400 for Top 10, BetRivers)

This will be Migliozzi’s first attempt at a British Open, but he just showed us last month at the U.S. Open that he has the talent to contend at the major level. He turned heads at the South Course of Torrey Pines, carding a final-round 68, lifting him to a fourth-place finish in his major debut. Migliozzi ranked sixth that week in strokes gained tee to green and third in strokes gained on the par 4’s. The following week Migliozzi recorded a 13th at the Travelers due to him finishing the week fourth in strokes gained on the par 4’s at TPC River Highlands.

Given that Royal St. George’s is a par 70, Migliozzi’s top-notch efficiency on par 4’s will be crucial this week. He also just tallied a solid 35th-place finish at the Scottish Open this past weekend at a links course similar to Royal St. George’s. Migliozzi is not getting the respect he deserves at this number.
