NBA Prop Bet No. 1: Deandre Ayton OVER 13.5 Points (-125)
Tonight’s Nuggets vs. Suns Game 1 should be all sorts of entertaining. It is not an upgrade in offensive matchup by any means for the Nuggets, who faced in the first round a Trail Blazers team that finish 29th in defensive efficiency this season. But it is a completely different story for the Suns, and it would seem there are a number of player props on that side of the ball that aren’t adjusted for the massive upgrade in matchup. During the regular season, the Lakers ranked first in defensive efficiency (106.8), while the Nuggets finished 11th (111.5), insinuating points could be a little easier to come by after Phoenix averaged only 104 per game in their first series.
Amongst all of the Suns listed, taking the over on 13.5 for Ayton might be the most obvious pick. He came out of the gate hot in the first four games of the series, averaging just shy of 20 points per game and scoring at least 14 points in each. A shift in scheme when Anthony Davis was out for basically the entirety of Games 5 and 6 led to limited work, but there is no doubt his size will be required to matchup with Nikola Jokic as much as possible in this series. And having averaged 14.6 points in 31.1 minutes per game during the regular season, then seeing those numbers jump up to 15.8 points in 36.2 minutes per game in the Lakers series, it makes sense to buy into the minutes and easier matchup here, even at -125 odds.

NBA Prop Bet No. 2: Mikal Bridges OVER 11.5 Points (-120)
Copy everything above regarding Ayton and paste it into this section on Bridges. While his minutes increase hasn’t been as drastic as Ayton’s, having gone from 32 per game in the regular season to 33.5 in the first round, those are the small edges that can make a huge difference. And considering he averaged 13.2 points per game during the regular season, this prop has no business of sitting at only 11.5 in a near-neutral defensive matchup. He also attempted at least four 3-pointers in each of the Suns six playoff games, so the upside is there for him to sneak up on 11.5 in a hurry. All of this put together makes Bridges yet another nice addition to the betting card for this evening.
NBA Prop Bet No. 3: Chris Paul OVER 13.5 Points (-110)
After a shoulder injury that obviously hampered Paul’s production throughout the early stages of the first round, he regained a bit of form from Game 4 with 18 points on 7-for-15 shooting. He trailed off once more towards the end of the series — partially due to Devin Booker going completely insane in Games 5 and 6 — but there is no question his shoulder and mobility looked much improved. While Paul impacts a game in so many other ways than scoring, 13.5 is still too low when considering 1) his 15.8 points per game in the regular season, and 2) the transition from the Lakers defensive front to the Nuggets, which cannot be emphasized enough.
The aim is to hit two of these props for a nice profit, but three is not out of the question based on season averages, slight minutes increases and the much-improved matchup. And maybe Devin Booker can continue scoring at will coming off 29.7 points per game in that Lakers series. But for the Suns to be successful, it will most likely be as a collective unit, so take advantage of these low numbers early.
