Best NBA Bets Today: Game Tips & Betting Predictions

Mavericks vs. Suns Best Bet

Dallas and Phoenix clash on Wednesday for Game 2 of the Western Conference semifinals series in Phoenix. The Mavericks fell short in Game 1 on Monday 121-114 to the Suns. Luka Doncic tried to put on a heroic performance posting 45 points on 50% shooting, but the Mavericks supporting cast could not get it going, shooting just 38.5% from the field. The Suns move to 3-1 at home this postseason. Dallas will need to look for a way to slow down Deandre Ayton and the Suns on the road down 0-1 in the series. Game 2 tips off at 10:00 p.m. ET on TNT.

The Mavericks have a lot to improve upon on the defensive side of the floor after giving up 121 points on 50% shooting to the Suns in Game 1. Dallas struggled on the glass and will need to find a way to limit the rebound differential if they want to have any chance of winning this series. Tim Hardaway Jr. remains out for the Mavericks. Maxi Kleber is listed as questionable with a neck injury. Kleber provided a solid performance off the bench draining five 3-pointers and finishing with 19 points in Game 1. His offensive production is critical to the success of the Dallas bench, so keep an eye on his status throughout the day. Offensively, Dallas is scoring an average of 106.0 points per game during the postseason. Doncic leads the team with 33 points per game and Jalen Brunson is second on the team with an average of 25.7 points per game this postseason. Brunson was locked down in Game 1, shooting 6-16 from the field and finishing with 13 points. Dallas was able to knock down 16 3’s as a team in Game 1, but expect Phoenix to make the necessary adjustments in Game 2 as this team allowed the fourth-fewest 3-pointers to opponents in the regular season.

While much of the Suns’ success in Game 1 can be contributed to Ayton’s 25-point performance, Mikal Bridges, Jae Crowder and Cameron Johnson combined for 41 points on 50% shooting from deep. All five starters for Phoenix scored in double figures. Phoenix finished the game shooting 50.5% overall as a team. The Suns controlled the boards, outrebounding the Mavericks 51 to 36. Monty Williams was able to get Chris Paul some well-needed rest, only playing 28 minutes in Game 1 after averaging 36.8 minutes in their Round 1 series with the Pelicans. Paul has been known for injuries, so any time he has the chance to play reduced minutes it is huge for his longevity throughout these playoffs. The Suns’ defense mainly played single coverage on Doncic, electing to lockdown defense on their other starters, forcing the Mavericks to try to win through the play of Doncic.

Tail Awesemo's Sports Betting Picks Today!

In four games this season, these two teams are combining for an average of 216 points with only Game 1 exceeding 216 points. Do not expect Phoenix to have another night shooting 50% as a team. The under is 4-1 in the last five meetings in Phoenix and 6-2 in their last eight matchups. The tempo should remain the same as Game 1 as neither team prefers to play at a quick pace. The Mavericks will look to make the necessary adjustments to slow down Ayton in the paint. Both teams are solid at defending the perimeter which will limit the number of deep shots made. These two teams also ranked bottom 10 in free throw attempts per game this season. Between their slow pace, solid perimeter defense and fewer trips to the line, the under is in play for tonight’s action.

The Suns have won 10 straight games against the Mavericks and are 7-3 against the spread in those 10 games. Phoenix has won each of their four matchups this season by 7 or more points. The Suns win at home by an average of 8.6 points. While it is just one game, the Dallas Mavericks looked outmatched after what fans witnessed on Monday. The Suns have been one of the best teams at home this season and Ayton should feast once again in the paint. Lay the points with Phoenix at home on Wednesday.
