Best NBA Betting Picks Today | Jan. 11

Timberwolves vs. Pelicans Best Bets

The Minnesota Timberwolves take on the New Orleans Pelicans inside Smoothie King Center on Tuesday. The Timberwolves will look to extend their four-game win streak against a struggling Pelicans squad. These two teams have already met three times this season, with the Timberwolves winning two of the three matchups. The total line seems a bit tricky given the average game total has been 197 points in their three matchups. The Timberwolves have gone over 240 total points in their last two games, which can be a contributor to the current line.

The Timberwolves come into tonight with a 20-20 record, hanging on to eighth in the Western Conference. Minnesota ranks 19th in offensive rating and is averaging 109.6 points per game this season. Their recent offensive successes can be contributed to facing two bottom-tier teams over their last three games. Karl-Anthony Towns is coming off a season-high 40 points against the Rockets on Sunday. Anthony Edwards continues to impress in his second year. He is second on the team in scoring, averaging 22.2 points per game. Minnesota will face a Pelicans defense that is 24th in defensive rating and allowing 110.2 points per game this season. The Pelicans have matched up well against the Timberwolves, holding Minnesota to under 100 points in two of the three games. Both teams come into this one with relatively few inactive players. Patrick Beverley is questionable for Minnesota with a groin injury for Tuesday. Tomas Satoransky and Josh Hart will be available for the Pelicans on Tuesday.

The Pelicans are back home desperate for a win, after losing four of their last five games. New Orleans comes into this showdown with a record of 14-26, 13th place in the Western Conference. New Orleans averages 105.2 points per game, led by Brandon Ingram, who is contributing 22.5 points per game. Ingram has improved his shot over the last two games, but the Pelicans have been unable to build momentum since his return. The Pelicans rank 27th in effective field goal percentage and will not have an easy test against a Timberwolves defense thank ranks eighth in defensive rating.

The Pelicans are cashing the under in 55% of their games this season. The total has gone under in all three matchups this season, yet they have not adjusted the total line. Minnesota game totals have combined to hit under the total of 227 points 24 times this season. The Pelicans have stayed under this total in 29 of its 40 games. Follow the trend in tonight’s matchup, and take the under in the total game points.

Pistons vs. Bulls Best Bets

The Detroit Pistons face off against the Chicago Bulls in a Central Division showdown on Tuesday. The 9-30 Pistons come into Chicago winners of four of their last six games. Detroit was able to pull off an impressive victory last night on their home court 126-116 over the Utah Jazz. Chicago will look to bounce back at home after their nine-game winning streak was spoiled in Dallas on Sunday. The Bulls are 14-4 on their homecourt this season. Detroit has one of the league worst road records, 3-17 away from home.

The Bulls have been one of the most entertaining teams to watch in the NBA this year. The chemistry they have built with the additions of Lonzo Ball and DeMar DeRozan to play alongside Zach LaVine is proving to look like a winning combination. LaVine and DeRozan are the top scoring duo in the league, averaging 26 points apiece. Alex Caruso and Javonte Green remain out on Tuesday for the Bulls. Chicago’s offense ranks fourth in offensive efficiency and is averaging 110.9 points per game. Chicago’s defense is nothing to sleep on, as they are holding opponents to 107.6 points while forcing 14.5 turnovers per game.

Jerami Grant, Frank Jackson and Kelly Olynyk remain sidelined for the Pistons. Detroit acquired Bol Bol from the Nuggets on Sunday, and he remains questionable for Tuesday’s game, so keep an eye on player updates throughout the day. Cade Cunningham is coming off a career-high 29 points in their victory last night against the Jazz. Both Cunningham and Saddiq Bey both posted 29 points to erase a 22-point deficit and come out victorious. The big question is will they be able to put up similar offensive production on the road in second half of a back-to-back with travel. The Pistons have the 29th-ranked offense in the NBA, scoring 100.9 points per game, while their defense is 22nd in the league and allows 110.6 points to its opponents.

The Bulls have dominated the Pistons in recent history, winning nine straight in the series matchup, with two early-season wins back in October. This spread is a bit high, so focus on the total. Seven of their last nine matchups have gone under 200 total game points. Detroit has a 1-5 over/under record on no rest. The Bulls have played in a lot of low-scoring games when going up against bad offenses. Take the under with confidence, and watch for the Bulls to get back in the win column as they bully a weaker Pistons squad.
