This is expected to be a ground-and-pound game on both sides since neither quarterback exactly excels at throwing the football, to put it lightly. Lamar Jackson has had a down season, following his MVP campaign. We have seen him complete about three percent less of his passes. He is also averaging under 200 yards passing per game, while tossing just 12 touchdowns through eight games. Jackson has also averaged a full yard less per carry while averaging over 20 fewer yards per game.
While the Patriots are coming off a win, it was a close game against the Jets, which says a lot about this team. Not only does Cam Newton not have many weapons at his disposal, he has not looked good throwing to said weapons. He has thrown just two touchdowns to seven interceptions, while having just two games of over 200 passing yards. His rushing has also taken a hit, being held under 20 yards in two of his last three games. This offense goes as far as Newton can take them, and he will need to be sharp in prime time against a talented Baltimore defense.
The interesting thing about this game is where the money is going. As of Sunday morning, 93% of the money was on Baltimore. Yet we saw the line move a half point in the Patriots’ favor. Goin strictly on this data, the Patriots are an intriguing underdog despite their offensive issues and weakness against the run.
