Normally held in February, the 2020 edition of the Indian Wells Masters was the first major sporting even to get canceled due to the pandemic. The tournament organizers also postponed the 2021 version from February to October in order to allow more spectators to be able to attend one of the biggest tennis tournaments of the year. The field for the 2021 Indian Wells Masters is a tad watered down, but that opens some opportunities to get players at deeper odds and make tennis betting picks more profitable if and when they hit. Below are some of the best tennis bets and tips on how to bet the Indian Wells Tournament below.
Indian Wells Betting Preview: Tennis Odds & Best Bets
The 2021 version of Indian Wells is the second Masters 1000 or above tournament this season that does not feature any of the big three. That tournament saw Hubert Hurkacz defeat Jannik Sinner in the final, with Hurkacz entering the tournament as high as 100-1 on the outright markets. It would not be surprising to see a final just as unexpected in this tournament, opening up a lot of value in the field.
ATP Outright Picks
Matteo Berrettini +2500: Berrettini has had an excellent year in 2021, with quarterfinal runs or better in the last three majors. All three of those losses came at the hands of Novak Djokovic, who not play in this tournament. The draw sets up well for him, with the seemingly invincible Daniil Medvedev sitting on the opposite side of the bracket. This is an excellent chance for Berrettini to put a capstone on the best season of his career.
Felix Auger-Aliassime +2800: Auger-Aliassime is also on the opposite half of the draw of Medvedev and is in a separate quarter from both Berrettini and Alexander Zverev. Auger-Aliassime is coming off of a deep run at the U.S. Open, losing to eventual champion Medvedev in the semifinals. Yet again he finds himself with a great chance break through and cement himself as the best young talent on the tour.
Round 1 ATP Best Bets
Jeffrey John Wolf +122: After seeming like he was finally through all of the injury and consistency troubles that plagued him in the 2010s, Vasek Pospisil has regressed this season. He is 3-6 over the summer hardcourt swing, and hardcourt is his best surface. Getting plus odds on Wolf is good value given the inconsistency in his opponent’s play.
Thiago Monteiro +105: Tennys Sandgren is another player that has been in really poor form in 2021. Monteiro is generally a clay court specialist, but fading Sandgren is the correct play until he rediscovers some level of form. The slow hardcourts at Indian Wells should also help Monteiro in this matchup.
Jack Sock -114: This is a pretty interesting matchup between Sock and John Millman. Sock was in good form and giving Zverev trouble in the U.S. Open before getting hurt and being forced to retire. Sock’s game fits better on these courts, and assuming he is focused and motivated, he should be able to overwhelm Millman.
Moneyline Parlay Pieces: Brandon Nakashima, Soonwoo Kwon, Emil Ruusuvuori
