Buschy McBusch Race Outright Favorites

Denny Hamlin broke his consecutive streak of top-10 finishes last weekend at Talladega, finishing 32nd. However, following that penalty-fueled finish, Hamlin finds himself once again as the betting favorite at +550. Kansas is a track that Hamlin has had success as of late, finishing first in both the fall 2019 and summer 2020 races. Trailing behind Hamlin is the betting public’s new favorite driver, Kyle Larson, who opened at +800 but now sits at +650 with Martin Truex Jr. Larson has become the driver who receives the most attention from bettors as his number shrinks from Monday to Sunday. Expectations are high for Larson, both in betting and DFS, for a driver who won at Las Vegas and should have won Atlanta.

The main takeaway this week is that betting odds do not care that the majority of these drivers are going to have to fight traffic, and one another, to get to the front. Only two of our drivers with odds at +1000 or smaller actually start in the top ten, Brad Keselowski on the pole and Ryan Blaney starting seventh. With the pole position and No. 1 pit stall, bettors can get behind Keselowski at +850, but Blaney is a harder sell at +1000 for a driver with just three lead-lap finishes in his past six Kansas races.

With the 550-horsepower package, it appears Larson has the best car week to week while Hamlin finds new ways to lose each week.

Top Five Bets

There are lots of drivers with hardly any numbers you can feel confident getting behind. Anyone with real juice (Erik Jones +1000, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. +1000) needs to combine a multitude of wrecks with late-race pit strategies in order to get there. Even then it’s a stretch. However, a driver with +750 odds that actually makes sense: Austin Dillon.

Dillon rolls off the grid in sixth. There will be a pack of drivers heading his way that everyone is playing in DFS. However, if Dillon gets a top-10 starting spot, he can generally hold it. In his three 2021 starts in the 550-horsepower package, Dillon’s finishes are 12th, 12th and sixth. He has been way more consistent this year compared to seasons past, with numerous top-15 finishes. As for Kansas, Dillon could hang around fifth for most of the first stage, and then his prospects of being in the top 10 are up to his ability to hold off the pack and his pit crew.

This week’s parlay combines NASCAR betting picks and MMA picks, so you’ll need to get this in before Saturday evening. In Pete Rogers’ writeup for UFC Vegas 25 DFS picks, he states regarding the Cody Stamann – Merab Dvalishvili fight: “If Stamann is able to nullify Dvalishvili’s takedown attempts, I have confidence in Stamann as the superior striker.”

Dvalishvili is the favorite right now at -250, fairly favorable odds for a combat sport and tied for second highest of the evening.

However, I Stamann at +200 is more favorable considering Pete’s description of how this fight will go down. Combine Stamann’s upset with the above bet for DiBenedetto to win his group, giving +1025 odds. They are not the best odds, but a $10 wager sees a 10x return in this case. For those wanting something more to sweat, feel free to add John Hunter Nemechek (+450) to win Saturday’s Trucks race and the boost the odds to +6088.
