MMA Betting Picks: UFC 261: Usman vs. Masvidal 2

Ariane Carnelossi -210

An exciting matchup between Ariane Carnelossi and Na Liang kicks off UFC 261. The first fight of the night is often volatile, but I feel confident in Carnelossi to nullify Liang’s game and punish her. Liang is a talented grappler with slick submissions but will get desperate at times when met with resistance. I like several components of Carnelossi’s game: her aggression, physicality, striking and jiu-jitsu background. Carnelossi can beat Liang on the feet, stifle her submission game, and capitalize on her mistakes. The line sits at -210, but I feel like we’re getting a nice bargain here.

Karl Roberson +135

In this middleweight matchup we have Brendan Allen taking on Karl Roberson. Both men are looking to rebound from a loss, but Allen is the one coming in after a KO defeat. I’m always hesitant to recommend fighters coming off a knockout loss, especially when they rush back to the octagon. Allen has a clear grappling advantage in this fight, but he’ll need to avoid striking with Roberson at all costs. Roberson has been training alongside Corey Anderson in preparation, and that gives me confidence. I think Roberson has a physicality advantage over most middleweights, and could punish Allen if he defends the takedowns. It’s a close fight but I will lean towards Roberson to pull off the upset.

Rose Namajunas +172

I am so excited for this title fight between Weili Zhang and Rose Namajunas. This is an excellent matchup between two fighters in their prime, and it’s a difficult test for both guys. I don’t expect this fight to be dominant for either side, but I think Namajunas is in a sneaky spot here. We have seen Zhang perform admirably in the octagon, but let’s not forget about the former champion Namajunas. Under the tutelage of Trevor Wittman, Namajunas has elevated her sniper-like striking to new levels. If there’s a fighter within the division who can win exchanges against Zhang it is Namajunas.  Zhang has been phenomenal thus far, but I also have questions regarding her ground game. Throughout Namajunas’ young career she depended on slick grappling to win rounds, and work towards a submission finish. I believe a strategy of this nature could be flying under the radar, and I don’t mind choosing such a talented underdog in Namajunas.
