2022 Masters Golf Betting Picks This Week: Three Ball & Head-to-Head Predictions

The Masters is a unique event in many ways. With a smaller field and lots of past champions in the event, the matchup and three-ball odds on a round-by-round basis often present solid opportunities for betting. Combining Awesemo’s projections and betting tools with course history and recent form allows bettors to pick out some players to target for Round 1 and hopefully get their week off to a solid start. Let’s jump into some of the best Masters picks for three balls golf bets and head-to-head matchups.

Masters H2H & Three Balls Golf Betting Picks This Week

Round 1 Head to Head Matchup Bets

Tommy Fleetwood +145 Over Cameron Smith | DraftKings

Cameron Smith is playing great golf right now, but his odds this week have gotten to the point where he is priced up among the most elite names in the game. There is little value left in targeting Smith anywhere this week and his opponent for Round 1 may be in a good spot to target as a result. Tommy Fleetwood comes into this event with some momentum, posting top-20 finishes in three straight PGA Tour events. He cannot match Smith’s record at Augusta but has posted two top-20 finishes in five Augusta starts. This Thursday will also mark Smith’s first competitive stroke-play round since winning at the Players in March. A slow start would not be shocking and with Fleetwood’s ball striking looking a lot better of late, the +145 on tap for a Round 1 matchup looks well worth taking.

Max Homa -125 Over Talor Gooch | DraftKings

Neither of these players has a ton of experience playing at Augusta. Talor Gooch will be making his debut at this event while Max Homa will be playing for the third straight year. Homa only has four competitive rounds under his belt at Augusta thanks to two missed cuts. The missed cuts are likely the only thing keeping this line close. Homa has been the better player of the two by far of late, compiling four top-20 finishes in a row while showcasing some superb ball striking that has seen him gain strokes off the tee and on approach in four straight events as well. Gooch struggled at another long classic layout in Riviera earlier in the season and will be tough in his first appearance at the lengthy Augusta. The odds favor Homa, but not by enough.

Round 1 Three Ball Golf Bets

Dustin Johnson +145 vs. Horschel vs. Morikawa | DraftKings

One player who has a solid trend of starting fast in majors is Dustin Johnson. The 2020 winner of this event led three of the four majors after the first round in 2015 and was also a first-round leader of this event in 2020, the year he won. As for his competitors, they have good name recognition, but neither have Augusta form to be overly worried about. Collin Morikawa finished 18th here last season but it has been one of his worst majors, considering he has posted wins and top finishes already at the other three. He has also not been sharp around or on the greens of late which will certainly hurt his chances on a week where green-in-regulation percentages will likely be low. Billy Horschel has had a good start to the year but has not finished inside the top-30 at Augusta since 2016. Johnson is coming off two solid finishes, has the best course history by a mile and looks undervalued at +145 for a Round 1 three-ball bet.
