THE BEST NBA BETTING PICKS TODAY From Awesemo Data Scientists | Monday 3/7/22

Scoring has not been a problem for the NBA this season for sure, but it seems that individuals are going off more often recently. Last night, eight players dropped 30 points as Jayson Tatum led the way with 54, while Nikola Jokic had 46 and Khris Middleton had 44. Jokic scored 30 of his points over the final 17 minutes of the Nuggets 138-130 overtime victory over the Pelicans. Denver has won eight of nine and will get another chance tonight as they host the struggling Warriors. Golden State will be short-handed as they attempt to snap a four-game losing streak with Klay Thompson, Andrew Wiggins and Gary Payton II joining Andre Iguodala and Draymond Green on the sidelines. That game is part of the NBA’s eight-game schedule that features the Jazz at the Mavericks and Bulls at the 76ers.

Pistons Spread (+7.0) Over Hawks

The point spread has decreased a half-point from the morning line. Detroit is playing their best basketball of the season and they are home, where they have been considerably better than on the road. The Pistons have won two straight and five of seven overall. Significant improvement on the offensive end is the main reason that the Pistons have won games recently. They have upped their scoring by nine points since the All-Star break, improving their shooting by over 2.7% points to 44.8%, while also cutting their turnovers by two a game to 12.5. Cade Cunningham has played particularly well recently, averaging 20.5 points along with 8.0 rebounds and 4.7 assists. However, it really has been their frontcourt that has been particularly productive, with a league-high 83.4 points and the fifth-best efficiency rating over the last five games.

Atlanta is 3-2 with a two-game winning streak since the All-Star break. While Trae Young and Bogdan Bogdanovic are combining for 50 points over the last five games, they are not getting a lot of consistent help. Plus, the Hawks do not shoot the ball on the road as well as they do at home, and the Pistons’ backcourt has upped their game on the defensive end recently. Moreover, the Hawks have been atrocious on the defensive end all season long, and they have really struggled in the frontcourt during this recent stretch.

OddsShopper gives Detroit a 51% chance of covering. The Pistons have covered the spread nearly 60% of the time that they have been underdogs between 5 and 12 points.

76ers Spread (-7.5) Over Bulls

The spread has increased a full point since the morning line. Philadelphia has been a whole different team since the All-Star break with James Harden in the lineup, as he gives the 76ers a true playmaker who can score from anywhere on the court. The Sixers have not only shot the ball with Harden in the lineup, but they have gotten to the free-throw line considerably more often and done a much better job rebounding the ball on the defensive end. Harden has not shot the ball well against the Bulls, although he has been much more efficient on both ends of the court since his arrival to Philadelphia and has registered an offensive rating of 120 against them. Overall, the 76ers are 20-8 in 2022 and they have been much better at home than earlier in the year. The Sixers have won 12 of 17 games at Wells Fargo with a +4.2 scoring margin.

Chicago has lost four straight, with two of the losses coming on the road. The Bulls have been awful on the defensive end in their two recent road games, as they have been outscored by nearly 10 points and have permitted their opponents to record an effective field goal percentage of 60.5%. They may also not have the service of Nikola Vucevic (hamstring). While Vucevic is not a great defender, his absence further depletes the team and puts them even more shorthanded upfront against Joel Embiid and Tobias Harris. Embiid averages 29.3 points on 51.2% shooting from the field, along with 11.3 rebounds in three contests against the Bulls this year.

Philadelphia leads the season series 3-0 with their last two victories by a combined 20 points. Moreover, the 76ers are 11-8 against the Eastern Conference’s top 8 teams. Meanwhile, the Bulls have gone 6-11 against the top teams in the East, including 3-6 on the road.

Timberwolves vs. Trail Blazers Under 233.5 Points

The point total has increased by one point since the morning line. Minnesota and Portland just tangled at the Target Center on Saturday, with the Timberwolves earning a 135-121 victory. Do not expect things to be the same in this one as it usually is not in these situations, although the Wolves should once again roll. The 121 points that the Blazers scored were the most they have scored in the last four games by more than 25 points, as they shot 47.1% from the field and 42.1 from the 3-point line. Plus, Portland remains really depleted, and they will not have Anfernee Simons (bruised thigh) for this one. OddsShopper gives the under a 52% chance of hitting.

Gabe Vincent Over 7.5 Points

Vincent is coming off a 16 point performance in the Heat’s 99-82 victory over the 76ers on Saturday as he connected on 6 of 8 shots from the field, including 4 of 6 from beyond the arc. Vincent pretty much only shoots 3-pointers, so he will likely have to knock down at least two shots from deep in order for him to reach that total. But that should not be a problem, as he has canned two or more triples in five of his last six outings, averaging nearly three treys a game while shooting them at a 41.4% clip during this stretch. Vincent has scored in double-figures in four of his last five, and he averages 13.3 points while shooting 43.3% from the floor and 39.9% from deep as a starter. Houston has allowed 12.6 treys a game over their last 10 contests, including six to the opposition’s backcourt. He is projected for 11.90 points tonight. OddsShopper gives the over a 78% chance of hitting with an expected ROI of 52%.
