Whether you are a pro making your own PGA betting picks or just getting into the game, betting on golf provides a great way to sweat the action. Like most other professional sports, there are plenty of ways you can bet on golf; with outright winners, head-to-head matchups and plenty more, golf betting offers a wide array of PGA odds and wagers. There will certainly be an edge to be found each and every week, and next up is the Waste Management Phoenix Open.
That’s why we are debuting our PGA betting series. It consists of three articles:
- Outrights & Each Way (this one)
- Head-to-Head Matchups
- Jason’s Bet of the day (stole this idea from Awesemo’s own Ben Rasa)

Before we dive headfirst into my foursome of picks for this week, I want to make sure that we define terms for those of you who are brand new.
Outright: A bet that is placed on a golfer to win the tournament.
Each Way: A bet that covers a golfer for the top-five, top-10 and top-20 bets offered.
Article Results (Four Picks Per Week)
12 Total Picks:
- Wins: 0
- Top-5’s: 2
- Top-10s: 4
- Top-20s: 7
Sam Burns and Will Gordon getting into position for potentially massive payouts, but both failed to do anything good on Sunday. Burns still cashed a decent top-20 ticket, but it was not enough to get us back to even for the week.
Here is a breakdown of how I bet each week and how I allocated the funds in a sample using a $100 bet per week.
PGA Betting Picks: Waste Management Phoenix Open
Sungjae Im
Outright: 34-1 | Top 5: 13-2 | Top 10: 3-1 | Top 20: +145
Having been close each of the last two weeks, holding the lead at one point in each of them, I think the value on Im is seen across the board. With the rest of the board priced so much shorter than him, he’s an easy add to the betting card in hope of getting one of the studs at better value at some point in the tournament.

Will Zalatoris
Outright: 45-1 | Top 5: 8-1 | Top 10: 4-1 | Top 20: +175
Zalatoris showed us again that he’s here to stay. He is still not getting the same type of credit I think he deserves at this point. Maybe I will be proven wrong, but I think he is in a much better spot than Billy Horschel this week, and he has the exact same prices.
Cameron Champ
Outright: 100-1 | Top 5: 14-1 | Top 10: 15-2 | Top 20: 3-1
It hasn’t looked great these last couple of weeks in California for Champ. Now in the triple-digit range, it’s time to start taking shots with him again. He should be able to use his length advantage a good enough amount to get inside the top 20.
Bomb of the Week: Nick Hardy
Outright: 250-1 | Top 5: 45-1 | Top 10: 18-1 | Top 20: 7-1
Making a name for himself this last little bit, Hardy is playing this week through Monday qualifying, continuing his good form we saw out in Hawaii. He tied for 14th there, and while this field may be a bit stronger, there’s no reason to think he can shoot for another top 20 here this week. His odds at 7-1 to do something he did very recently is an easy wager for me.
