While the Rams finished with the superior record in 2019, the Cowboys actually appear to hold a number of advantages in this game. On the offensive side of the ball, the Cowboys finished sixth in points per game in 2019 (27.1). This offseason, the Cowboys also upgraded their offense, replacing Randall Cobb with electric rookie CeeDee Lamb.

Conversely, the Rams continue to struggle to add talent after trading multiple early draft picks. This offseason the Rams lost Dante Fowler, Clay Matthews, Nickell Robey-Coleman and Eric Weddle on defense. On the edge, the Rams only added the Bears’ failed first-round pick Leonard Floyd. After finishing seventh in adjusted sack rate, the Rams could struggle to create pressure.

On the other side, the Rams’ offense line allowed pressure at one of the highest rates. Dallas possesses a solid pass rush with DeMarcus Lawrence and Tyrone Crawford off the edges. Jared Goff only completed 32.3% of his passes when pressured last year. Potentially playing with significant deficiencies on the offensive line, the Cowboys remain the play in this game.

On top of their offensive firepower, the Cowboys ran an efficient offense, despite hiring a new head coach in Mike McCarthy, the Cowboy retained offensive coordinator Kellen Moore. Last year, Moore’s offense ran 66.8 plays per game (seventh) and averaged 296.9 passing yards per game (second). Conversely, the Rams ranked middle of the pack on defense before their defensive departures.

As for the Rams, if they can keep Goff upright, they should put up plenty of points themselves. Last year, the Rams ran 65.9 plays per game (eighth) and passed the ball 62% of the time (eighth). While Dallas possesses a solid pass rush, they lost stud corner Byron Jones and safety Jeff Heath this offseason. With corner Jourdan Lewis also already ruled out, Cooper Kupp and Robert Woods should find room to run.
