While the spread remains intriguing, the overall point total actually looks like the top bet on the board for Sunday Night Football. Seattle showed their offensive firepower last week after racking up 383 total yards and 38 points on the Atlanta Falcons. On the other side, New England only managed 21 points, but game script heavily influenced the overall total after they played the entire game with the lead.

In this spot, New England should play with more urgency. Unlike Miami, Seattle’s ability to score projects to keep the Patriots on the offensive. Last week, Seattle ranked bottom five in yards allowed per pass attempt (8.0). Atlanta’s Matt Ryan racked up 450 yards in this spot just a week ago. Dual-threat quarterback Cam Newton only attempted 19 passes in Week 1, but he completed 15 of them for 155 yards. In what projects as a back-and-forth affair, Newton’s efficiency could lead to extra points on the board.

On the Seattle side, the Seahawks took a surprisingly aggressive approach to Week 1. After ranking bottom six in pass rate last year, the Seahawks morphed into an aggressive passing attack in Week 1. This Seahawks team actually ranked third in game script-neutral pass rate (69%), showing an increasing trust in Russell Wilson at the helm. While New England’s defense remains elite, they did allow 299 yards to the Miami Dolphins last week.

With both offenses setting up to attack the pass, the over remains a solid pick ahead of Sunday Night’s tilt between the Patriots and the Seahawks.

New England +4 (BetRivers)

As for the spread, New England looks to hold a number or potential advantages in this matchup. Mentioned above, Seattle’s defense particularly struggled against the pass. While the Patriots implemented a run-first game plan, Newton completed 15 of 19 passes for 155 yards. He also saw an efficient performance from receiver Julian Edelman. Edelman secured five of seven targets, recording 36.8% of New England’s air yards and 59.3% of their air yards.

As for Seattle, they will face a New England defense that allowed just 6.1 yards per pass attempt and 3.2 yards per carry. Unfortunately, Seattle also enters this game with Cedric Ogbuehi doubtful. Atlanta racked up three sacks against this banged up offensive line last week. New England struggled with pass rush in Week 1, but this matchup could provide an avenue for success.

With New England playing efficient football and Seattle showing concerns on both sides of the ball, the Patriots remain a strong bet for Sunday Night Football.
