Week 9 Monday Night Football NFL Picks + Odds Boosts To Watch | Patriots vs Jets

Odds boosts are exactly that: Promotions from sportsbooks where they move tin your favor on certain bets. Many of them are prop bets, hoping you’ll put a few dollars on someone to hit a home run or a certain team to score a certain number of goals and still win. Our job is to highlight some of those odds boosts and give you some NFL bets and picks to bet on, assuming it’s smart to buy into the NFL odds the sportsbooks are selling. We scour the internet trying to find the best odds boosts for you every day from every sport. Today, it’s a dive into the Week 9 Monday Night Football matchup between the New England Patriots and the New York Jets.

This is the type of matchup I would normally avoid betting on a regular NFL Sunday, but this is the only game left in Week 9. The Jets are an inept offense that have scored more than 13 points just twice this season as they remain winless. The Patriots have lost four straight as their offense has cratered since Cam Newton’s COVID-19 diagnosis. Betting on either of these offenses to do much tonight seems futile, but it’s our mission to try to find some of the best options. No surprise, they revolve around Newton running and the Patriots defense, both of which could be considered bright points in this nightmare season for New England.

Week 9 Monday Night Football NFL Odds Boosts + NFL Picks

NFL Picks: Cam Newton Scores Rushing Touchdown & Patriots Win (+175 DraftKings)

Newton has scored a rushing touchdown in four of his six appearances this season, reverting back to the powerhouse rusher he was in Carolina. Given Newton’s struggles in the passing game, his legs are arguably the biggest weapon New England has on offense. The Patriots lack quality receivers to really exploit the Jets defense and the injuries in the backfield mean there won’t be a featured back behind Newton tonight. I expect New England will try to control the clock and just use Newton as an oversized running back, especially near the goal line in the red zone.

There are a few other odds boosts for Newton, but considering he hasn’t come close to 100 yards yet on the ground and he hasn’t thrown a touchdown in three weeks, so those odds boosts seem a bit farfetched. For those not as confident about a Patriots victory, you can just bet Newton to rush for a touchdown at +140 odds at PointsBet. However, I don’t trust the Jets to win a game this season, especially with Joe Flacco at quarterback, so I think New England gets the job done tonight.

NFL Picks: Joe Flacco Throws 1.5+ Interceptions (+315 DraftKings)

New England has the third-most interceptions in the NFL with nine through seven games, so this is a very reasonable bet to make. Flacco has thrown just one interception in his two starts earlier this season, but the Patriots’ defense will test him even without Stephon Gilmore. Flacco is completing just above 50 percent of his passes and without any true No. 1 receivers, he’ll struggle to throw the ball. Given the fact the Jets should be playing from behind, I expect Flacco will also have plenty of chances to pass tonight.

The Patriots forced two interceptions off Drew Lock and Jimmy Garoppolo in consecutive weeks before grabbing one off Josh Allen last week. The secondary is still the best unit on the defense and J.C. Jackson has proven himself as an excellent corner. He’ll likely draw the assignment against New York’s best receiver and with his ball skills, he should be able to jump a route. The Patriots also has the ball-hawking Devin McCourty at safety and he is bound to make a play or two if the Jets try to go deep. The point being, New England has the talent and track record to force multiple interceptions from an average quarterback in this league.

NFL Picks: Damien Harris Scores First Touchdown (+850 FanDuel)

Harris scored his first touchdown of the season last week against Buffalo in a 102-yard effort. The Patriots should again keep the game on the ground against the Jets given their lack of receivers, so that means plenty of touches for Harris. It’s always a reach when sportsbooks put out bets like this that pinpoint someone to score the game’s first touchdown, but Harris is as good a bet as anyone not named Cam Newton. This is just an easy low-risk, high-reward play for bettors looking for some action on Monday Night Football.
