PGA DFS Picks: AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-AM – Round 3
Previous Round Recap
Pebble Beach Golf Links:
At times in the day, the wind seemed to be blowing some, and it contributed to a very interesting cut line. As of writing this, things are not quite settled, but it sure looks like it will hang on at -1. Both courses played a bit harder on day two, but there were still some good scores out there. Daniel Berger was one of those, shooting 66, and putting himself in position to make a run at the title this week. Also playing well on Pebble Beach is Sebastian Cappelen, who was six-under on his round through 16 holes. Paul Casey had a nice day as well, shooting 67 and making himself very much a part of my week-long teams. Matthew NeSmith rode a back nine hole-out to a 67 and easily sailed through the cut.
Spyglass Hill
For the second straight day, Spyglass was the harder of the two courses, but that didn’t matter for my guy Jordan Spieth who looks like he’s all the way back. The swing looks great, the short game confidence is back, and the putts are dropping. We know how good of a sign that is. He cleared the field by two today at Spyglass. Tom Lewis, Maverick McNealy, Jason Day, John Senden and possibly Joseph Bramlett were the only other guys in the 60s, and they all shot three-under. Spieth is hot.

General Strategy and AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-AM PGA DFS Picks
When I said that the wind would cause some problems for Friday, I really meant that it will in round three, or at least it’s expected to. At some points on Saturday, the gusts could be as high as 30 miles per hour, which will certainly be more difficult than the previous two days. There are some rain showers expected in the morning as well, so that should keep the course nice and soft.
Top-10
Patrick Cantlay had a very odd start to his round, hitting the ball a bit right off the tee on 10 at Spyglass, and losing it completely. He had to re-tee and ended up making double, then never really recovered. He’s back on Pebble Beach tomorrow, where he looked stellar in round one. He’s not the only stud up there, as every golfer priced above $9,500, with the exception of Will Zalatoris, is inside the top-15 heading into the weekend. So, while the field wasn’t all that strong, we will have all of the top players sticking around for the weekend, making it undoubtedly a compelling watch.
A little way down the top-10 board sits Russell Knox who has put together back-to-back solid rounds, including a 67 on Thursday at Pebble. Look for him to make a run over the weekend. Henrik Norlander also looks solid for the second straight week but playing in the final group with Berger and Spieth may be a bit much for him.
PGA DFS Pick Outside the Top-10
Akshay Bhatia ($7,600)
After a dazzling Thursday at Pebble Beach, the teenager struggled a bit at the more challenging Spyglass Hill, making a double and another bogey late in his round to fall out of the top-10. But, now that his price has come up and with him coming off of a bad second round, I can’t imagine he’ll be heavily owned. I’d like to try to get a piece on Saturday and maybe lay off a bit Sunday as he tries to earn his second top-10 this season.
Sneaky PGA DFS Pick for Round 3
Matthew NeSmith ($7,200)
I already mentioned the hole out above, but the rest of the day looked solid as well. He only made one bogey on the hardest hole on the course. He’s been in form for a bit now. After a bad start on Thursday, the bounce back today shows that the form didn’t leave him. His price is also down quite a bit, which should mean lower ownership as well. He was one of only a few golfers to gain strokes in all four categories on Friday.
DraftKings and FanDuel AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am Lineup Fill-Ins
- Max Homa ($8,300)
- Francesco Molinari ($9,200)
- Wes Roach ($7,000)
- Vaughn Taylor ($6,800)
