PGA DFS Player Focus
This week features 132 golfers with the top 65 and ties making the weekend.
Interestingly this week, there are eight more golfers priced at $7,500 and above as compared to last week. That usually signals tighter pricing and a stronger field.
PGA DFS Picks: $9,500-$12,000
- 12 Golfers
- Total ownership of around 200%
There are plenty of familiar names here this week in the top 10 or so priced golfers, as many of the golfers competing here this week need a tune-up for next week, at least in my opinion. Dustin Johnson is the clear-cut favorite in this event, and his projected ownership mirrors that. Tyrrell Hatton, Scottie Scheffler and Russell Henley are next up on the ownership ticket, all coming in around 20%. Not too far behind them are Viktor Hovland, Hideki Matsuyama, Sungjae Im and Adam Scott, all who will be owned over 15% but likely not above 20%.

The Awesemo model has Russell Henley grading out with an overall “A” for this week’s tournament. Based on where he is in the expert model, he could be a good bet to win with his odds to win at +2200. That leaves us with four golfers that are all trending towards the 10% owned line. Tony Finau is the second-highest-priced golfer in the field, and that isn’t typical, thus driving his ownership down. Brooks Koepka feels overpriced given his recent health status, while Sergio Garcia’s and Jason Day’s prices seem expensive, Day’s especially.
Top Against the Grain Plays
I think that if Koepka ends up making the weekend, he’ll get himself into contention. So for the $5, $10 and other MME GPPs, I like Koepka a bit here. I’ll try and get close to 20%, if not a bit over.
PGA DFS Picks: Nos. 11-32 Priced Golfers ($7,500-$9,400)
- 25 Golfers
- Total ownership 200%
Denny McCarthy, fresh off his top five in Bermuda, will ride high into this week and earn the top ownership spot. But you can see it’s quite evenly spread out between these next 20 golfers. With no one projected over 15% owned, it opens up plenty of options to chose from. You can easily get 3x on anyone in the section and still be under 30% total ownership. I’ll end up using a lot of options in this range because of that, versus going heavy on one or two like I did last week.
Outside of McCarthy, Erik van Rooyen, Zach Johnson and Alex Noren are all projected around 10% this week. Also getting close will be Brian Harman, Dylan Frittelli, Doc Redman, Talor Gooch, Cameron Davis, Lanto Griffin, Wyndham Clark, Harold Varner III, Stewart Cink and Mackenzie Hughes.Â
That should just about do it for golfers projected to be owned over 10% this week. Golfers closer to 5% than 10% include:
- J.T. Poston
- Corey Conners
- Sam Burns
- Lee Westwood
- Kevin Streelman
- Shane Lowry
- James Hahn
Incredibly, that’s only going to leave us with three golfers that will be at or under 5%:
- Jordan Spieth
- Phil Mickelson
- Emiliano Grillo
Top Against the Grain Plays
Both Grillo and Spieth seem like they are playing consistent golf over the last couple of starts and seem to be scoring decently as well, yet no one wants to roster them. On the other hand, Mickelson is so erratic in his play that he’s hard to roster in important spots. I’ll focus more on Grillo and Spieth this week. I also like Westwood, Burns, Poston and Conners from that first bulleted list.
PGA DFS Picks: The Rest ($7,400 and Below)
- 87 Golfers
- Total ownership of 200%
With over 200% of total ownership still attributed to this range, there will be plenty of golfers near or over 10% owned this week. Keegan Bradley has been playing well, sits in the value range, low $7,000, and is likely going to be the highest owned in this group with the withdrawal of Harry Higgs. Sepp Straka, Scott Piercy and Maverick McNealy will all get a boost from it as well and come close to 10%.
Matt Jones is coming into this week off of his best finish in quite a while, and he leads the next batch of golfers that are likely to be owned over 5%. Others in this range include Luke List, Carlos Ortiz, Martin Laird and Cameron Tringale.Â
Outside of them, however, not many golfers will get over 5%, although some still may get close, including Max Homa, Mark Hubbard, Adam Schenk, Tom Hoge, Danny Lee, Rory Sabbatini, Will Gordon, Jhonattan Vegas, Pat Perez, Matthew NeSmith and Tyler Duncan.Â
There are still a ton of golfers that will be under 5% owned that I am interested in. They include:
- Aaron Wise
- Brandt Snedeker
- Beau Hossler
- Keith Mitchell
Top Against the Grain PGA DFS Plays
Wise seems to be gaining confidence and getting closer, and with a course that doesn’t have much trouble off the tee, I like that for him. Pairing him up with Gordon and/or Homa should give you at least two golfers under 10% owned and likely under 5% owned in your lineup.
