Yahoo Cup PGA DFS Picks: AT&T Pebble Beach Pro Am

Looking for a way to learn PGA DFS without jumping in with both feet? Then I have a perfect solution for you. This year Yahoo and Yahoo Fantasy is offering a $10,000 Freeroll called the “Yahoo Cup.” This contest awards a winner for weekly events and one winner at the end of the season who has the most cumulative points. That winner will receive $1,000. While we may have missed four weeks of competition, not to worry; as part of the Yahoo Cup rules, you get to drop your lowest eight scores. That will come in handy as we start our track to become the Yahoo Cup Champion.

Given the fact that we are starting a tad behind the rest of the bunch, there are two schools of thought on how to make up those differences. Of course, ultimately it comes down to picking the right golfers. So first I’ll start off with some general slate strategy, my top three value plays based on the Yahoo pricing, a couple of lineup fill-ins, and then I will finish it off with two different lineup variations of how to start your building your lines this week.

General Slate Strategy for the Yahoo Cup

It has been a crazy beginning of the week to start the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am with a ton of withdrawals, including Dustin Johnson. With him leaving the field, it now leaves just a few studs left. Using these next three value plays, you should be able to roster any three studs you want. Of course, my first two picks would be Patrick Cantlay and Jordan Spieth.

Top Three Values for the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am

Max Homa ($34)

Homa is trending in the right direction, even with his rather poor finish on Sunday at the Waste Management. He has back-to-back top-15s at this tournament and is working on three straight made cuts. At $34 he should provide a great starting block to your lineup.

Francesco Molinari ($32)

Having made the top 10 in back-to-back starts, Molinari seems like he’s trending to the form of old rather than the form we’ve seen the last two years. His salary is well below guys like Chez Reavie and Joel Dahmen and is a great value to put in your lineup first. For a conservative build, start with both Homa and Molinari in your lineup, and there should be plenty of flexibility to roster at least one more stud.

Doug Ghim($21)

Having finally broke his streak of zero top-1os a few weeks back at the American Express, Ghim can finally settle into his job with a touch more security than he had last year. He has also been able to put together a nice run of only one missed cut in his last seven tournaments, and for $21 Ghim might be the best value on the board this week.

  • Jordan Spieth ($39)
  • Mark Hubbard ($27)
  • Sam Ryder ($21)

PGA DFS Yahoo Cup Lineup Builds

Aggressive Build

Rostering Ghim, Hubbard and Molinari gives you the most the salary cap left over for your remaining three players — $40 per player, to be exact. Even throwing in Homa with those three would allow you to get two studs to pair with them.

Conservative Build

To take a bit more conservative approach, going with Ghim at this salary, along with Homa and Molinari, will allow you to get three more reasonable golfers rather than bombs. Golfers like Kevin Streelman, Henrik Norlander and Matt Jones would be good to pair with this type of build.
