I am primarily a GPP PGA DFS player and enjoy making up to 450 different lineups. As such, these allocations are likely not exact, but they are targets for the mass-entry GPPs. If this is your first time reading it, let’s go over what you can find in it.

Key/Legend

The following sections define who will play and what recommended allocation you should play them at:

  • Core: We will start with these golfers in every lineup. At least two from my core will be in every one of the lineups.
  • PFs: We all have our guys, and these are mine. They will be in the player pool at a minimum of 20%.
  • Chalk Zone: These golfers are expected to be the most popular golfers of the week. They are supposed to be widely owned, and so, in a massive GPP, a winning lineup likely will not have more than one of the guys listed in this area.
  • Alternates: On the PGA Tour, alternates are lucky to get in the field each week. However, it happens all the time due to injuries. This section will identify a few lineup alternates that can help fill a lineup and still provide some decent upside.
  • Recommended Allocation: The percentage of time said golfer should be in your lineups, or at least what we are advocating.
  • Projected Ownership: The percentage that the field will have said golfer in their lineups.
  • Variance: The difference between Recommended Allocation and Projected Ownership. A favorable variance gives you leverage.

Expected Weather

To say it lightly, the weather is very unpredictable, especially in these parts of the world. Given that the course has absolutely no defense from the wind coming off the sea, it will be there and in golfers’ faces, coming from the side and back all week. A constant 20 mph breeze will be blowing at all times for at least the first two days. Extended forecasts are not quite available on windfinder.com.

British Open PGA DFS Picks | DraftKings and FanDuel

Picks for DraftKings and FanDuel Larger Buy-In

  • Lineups
    • DraftKings: 13 $100 millionaire maker teams
    • FanDuel: 3 $555 monster teams
  • Stats
    • Number of players used: 48
    • Number of players used in multiple lineups: 22
    • Highest Number of lineups for one golfer: 6 (Spieth), 5 (Thomas and Rahm), 4 (Cantlay)

As is typical with majors, the best players in the world are here and are typically filling the leaderboards. Getting the right combination of them is what it takes to win.

Jon Rahm ($11,300 DraftKings/$12,300 FanDuel)

Rahm’s form and motivation are both too hard to pass up, even being the highest priced and one of the highest-owned golfers in the slate. He does not inspire as much confidence as he did at the U.S. Open, but that is more course oriented than anything else. This golf course brings other golfers into the mix rather than the course not being as good of a fit for Rahm.

Brooks Koepka ($10.700 DraftKings/$11,800 FanDuel)

On FanDuel there was not enough salary to get up to Rory McIlroy, so Koepka gets this spot. They each have two lineups in the $100 this week, but the salary was the deciding factor in FanDuel. Also, Koepka has finished top 20 in 17 of his last 20 majors.

Jordan Spieth ($9,700 DraftKings/$11,600 FanDuel)

It has been said that the British Open is the hardest one to be good at the first few times, but for Spieth, that does not exist. He is 7-for-7 with three top-10s, including a win. He loves this style of golf and relishes the bad bounces because he is the best at getting out of them.

Justin Thomas ($9,600 DraftKings/$11,400 FanDuel)

While Spieth has had great success, Thomas has not. However, after Round 1 in the 2017 British Open, he was third after Day 1. Then in 2019 at Portrush things finally started to click, finishing 11th. He has had a great year tee to green, especially with iron play and around the green. His putter, however, has been atrocious. But a change last week where he changed the shaft of his putter seemed to really catch his eye. He gained a stroke on the green and another couple around the green at the Scottish Open last week — a great sign of what could be in store here in Sandwich.

Louis Oosthuizen ($9,300 DraftKings/$11,100 FanDuel)

At this point it is simply not smart to go against Oosthuizen in majors, especially one that could be tailor-made for him to win.

Patrick Cantlay ($8,900 DraftKings/$10.700 FanDuel)

One of the best values on the board on both sites, Cantlay has done it all this year. He has set scoring records and won tournaments, and yet he is not getting a lot of love this week.

Patrick Reed ($8,800 DraftKings/$10,600 FanDuel)

Reed has made eight straight cuts, with every finish ending up in the top 32 of the tournament. Reed is one of the safest plays on the board at a major. His upside may be a tad capped given he has no top-fives, but given that seven of the eight finished inside the top 20, there is plenty of room for him to help win a smaller-field contest.

when you make your first deposit and play on Monkey Knife Fight
Scottie Scheffler ($8,200 DraftKings/$9,700 FanDuel)

Possessing the best short game of all the first-time big players here this week, Scheffler has proven himself to be a worthy competitor in majors. He has three top-10s in his last five majors, with all finishes coming inside the top 20.

Adam Scott ($8,100 DraftKings/$9,600 FanDuel)

Scott has been lost in the shuffle a bit this week, he comes into the week in arguably some of his best form of the year. Everything started to click at the Travelers, something he surely will take into this week.

Shane Lowry ($7,900 DraftKings/$9,800 FanDuel)

Lowry, the reigning champion of the event is coming into the week in some really good form. His game was built for this event, but the success in it has varied. With fans back in full force, Lowry will look to go back-to-back, which would be the first repeat since 2007-2008 when another Irishmen, Padraig Harrington, went back-to-back.

Harris English ($7,300 DraftKings/$9,200 FanDuel)

English’s form is undeniable. He has a win, a top-five and another top-15, which would have been a top-five were it not for a back-nine Sunday blunder. He may be in the best form of anyone in the world outside of Rahm. It could end this week, but the price is too good to pass up.

Rickie Fowler ($7,300 DraftKings/$9,300 FanDuel)

It was once said that Fowler’s best chance to win a major would be this one given his success at it. Even when he was not playing great, he played the weekend here and had plenty of great chances of coming in the top 10.

Awesemo's Top Golfer Tool is an Ace Since golf performances are largely uncorrelated between one golfer and the next, aside from weather impacts, a good way to view a PGA DFS lineup is as a parlay, where you have to hit all 6 picks to hit. The Awesemo Top Golfer Tool gives you the probabilities that each golfer will finish top 6, as well as their 25%, 50%,and 75% results as a benchmark for how you can expect each golfer to perform at the tournament.
Robert MacIntyre ($7,300 DraftKings/$8,500 FanDuel)

MacIntyre’s price is right compared to other golfers. He made one lineup on DraftKings and two on FanDuel, giving him one of the highest allocations on a dollar basis for the week.

Branden Grace ($7,200 DraftKings/$8,800 FanDuel)

Both form and fit play into this here, as Grace has had a resurgent year. He also tends to show up in these big events, especially when he holds a championship lure, having shot 63 on Saturday back in 2017.

Lucas Herbert ($6,800 DraftKings/$8,000 FanDuel)

Herbert is volatile, but he has played a stretch on links courses. That stretch includes a seventh, two fourths and a first. That is too good to pass up, especially at these prices. If he gets to the weekend, he will outscore his salary in a hurry. Even at the PGA Championship he finished near the bottom of the field in terms of position but scored over 50 DFS points.
