This is a quick-hitter column to give you the key stats needed to make informed PGA DFS picks in your DraftKings and FanDuel daily fantasy golf lineups. In this space I’ll give you a few recommendations for the third round of The Valero Texas Open. For typical Showdown GPPs, DraftKings offers upwards of $50,000 to first place for second- and third-round tournaments and sometimes even up to $100,000 for the final round. They also provide weekend-long contests that offer $25,000 to first place on average. FanDuel has even tried to get into the weekend-long and final-round contests, offering $10,000 and $5,000 to first place in their PGA DFS Showdown contests. Let’s take a look at PGA DFS picks for Round 4 of The Valero Texas Open.
Round 4 PGA DFS Picks: The Valero Texas Open
Previous Round Recap
There was a lengthy delay to start the day, as play didn’t end up finishing until about 7:45 local time, with overnight leader Cameron Tringale knocking it in for par on 18. A three-hole stretch of bogeys pushed Tringale down the leaderboard, while Jordan Spieth and Matt Wallace climbed higher. They also birdied both 17 and 18, separating themselves from rest of the field by a few shots. Charley Hoffman is the closest competition and is in position to win yet again at Valero.
Another name to look out for is Chesson Hadley, who has been adamant about this being one of his favorite courses on tour. Today he jolted up the leaderboard and is in position for his second straight top-13. Tom Hoge also shot 6 under, while Gary Woodland and Chris Kirk are in a position for a run up top as well.
Quick Hitter Round 3 Stat Recap
Spieth bounced back in tremendous fashion with the irons today, gaining 4.69 strokes, but he ended up losing slightly with his putter. Hoffman lost around the green, leaving only two golfers that gained strokes in all four facets of their game: Woodland and Hadley.

The Valero Texas Open PGA DFS Picks
With Wallace coming in at $8,000 tomorrow and finishing points coming into play, expect him to be mega chalk for the final round. He and Hoffman will likely join Spieth as the highest-owned trio, with Tringale and Anirban Lahiri playing big roles as well. Woodland will also likely get a ton of looks given that he’s a big name, is in the top 10 and at a cheap salary.
PGA DFS Picks for Round 4 of The Valero Texas Open
- Abraham Ancer ($9,700 Projected 39.03 Points): Find one golfer that’s going to be lower owned and higher-priced: Either Ancer, Scottie Scheffler, Ryan Palmer or Corey Conners.
- Gary Woodland ($7,400 Projected 34.16 Points):Â It has been a rocky road for Woodland since the return of COVID really almost a year ago. Moreover, this season he has no top-10s and made just four of 11 cuts, but all that can change in a hurry with a good round tomorrow. His short game had carried him the first two days, but in Round 3 his ball striking seemed to find its way back. If that keeps up tomorrow, his ownership will not matter.
- Chesson Hadley ($6,500 Projected 32.52 Points): Maybe the incredibly hot putter in Round 3 or the first three rounds will keep most gamers off of Hadley’s. Maybe it’s a stretch, but the rest of his game hasn’t been all that sharp, so typically gamers as a whole don’t like to chase a hot putter at all, let alone in-tournament.
DraftKings and FanDuel Valero Texas Open Lineup Fill-Ins
- Corey Conners ($10,100)
- Matt Kuchar ($8,800)
- Branden Grace ($7,600)
- Keith Mitchell ($6,800)
