Finding the right mix of low-owned golfers and chalk is critical when making fantasy golf picks this week. With 156 players in the field on the Potomac for the Wells Fargo Championship 2022, hosted by TPC Potomac at Avenel Farms, there will be plenty of opportunities to find golfers that not many gamers know about and create the edge necessary to score big. For this week’s tournament, let’s break down some of the best against-the-grain fantasy golf picks on DraftKings and FanDuel.

PGA DFS Favorites: $9,000 and Above
- 11 golfers
After the highest-owned golfer in any main slate in the history of PGA DFS won last week’s event, DraftKings wouldn’t be caught making the same mistake for the second straight tournament. Rory McIlroy has, in some places (which is why you should use OddsShopper to find the best lines for your bets this week), three times the odds to win what Jon Rahm was last week, but yet he has a higher salary. That’ll bring his ownership down considerably from the Rahm levels of last week, but it still remains the highest in the field. Corey Conners, who has been playing some very consistent golf over the previous few months, is also getting a ton of attention but is likely the only other golfer above $9,000 that’ll be owned over 20%.
Plenty of golfers are projected between the 15% and 20% marks, including Tony Finau, who had his best finish of the season last week when he came in a tie for second. Others include Matt Fitzpatrick, Tyrrell Hatton, Keegan Bradley, Russell Henley and Gary Woodland.
Top Contrarian Fantasy Golf Picks
This week there is a big disparity for the golfers in this price range, as they either a project for 15% ownership or more or less than 10%. Three names are on the lower side of that are Abraham Ancer, Marc Leishman and Patrick Reed. Ancer had one of the worst performances of his career around the green, losing close to eight strokes at Vidanta last week. That isn’t likely to repeat itself, and his ball striking and putter looked solid. Reed had a chance at a top-10 going into the back nine on Sunday, sitting at -11 for the tournament, but he shot 41 on the inward nine and ended up coming in the same position Ancer did: 42nd. So take out those outliers, and both golfers seem to be in a good spot to bounce back.
Leishman’s form hasn’t been all that good or all that bad, only missing one cut on the season, but he also only has one top-10 finish, which came at the Tournament of Champions all the way back in January.
PGA DFS Mid-Range ($8,900-$7,500)
- 22 golfers
With only 11 golfers in the previous pricing section and only two getting above 20%, there is plenty of allocation for this range. Only eight of the 21 golfers will be owned under 10%, and likely one of the 21 will be under 5% owned: Jason Day. Sergio Garcia, Max Homa, Jhonattan Vegas, Keith Mitchell, Sepp Traka and Seamus Power are getting the most attention, and they all are projected for more than 15% ownership .
Next up is a batch of golfers that are likely to be owned between 10% and 15%:
- Paul Casey
- Si Woo Kim
- Webb Simpson
- Doug Ghim
- Kevin Streelman
- Brian Harman
- C.T. Pan
- Troy Merritt
That will leave seven names, not including Day, that are likely to be owned between 5% and 10%:
- Aaron Rai
- Matt Jones
- Joel Dahmen
- Matthew NeSmith
- Lanto Griffin
- Brandon Wu
- David Lipsky
Top Contrarian Fantasy Golf Picks
The last two names on the list are coming off of season-best performances at the Mexico Open, with Wu tying for second and Lipsky tying for sixth. Both of their forms had been trending coming into the week, and one has to wonder if the best is behind them or yet to come. They’ve all but assured themselves of retaining their PGA Tour card for next year and making the playoffs in their first year on tour. Griffin is also coming off his best performance in quite some time, coming in a tie for 16th while performing very well with his ball striking. NeSmith has shown top-end form a few times over the last two months, while Rai has been close.
Joel Dahmen would be the best play according to Awesemo’s PGA DFS projections, as he has a projected point total of 62.3, the highest of the bunch.

PGA DFS Value Plays ($7,400 and Below)
- 99+ golfers
With the middle of the field being rather strong, it presents little to no standouts below $7,500. The projected highest-owned golfer is Adam Long coming in at 7.8%. Only a handful of others are projected over 5%:
- Brendan Steele
- Russell Knox
- Mark Hubbard
- Cam Davis
- Anirban Lahiri
- Alex Smalley
- Lucas Glover
- Matthias Schwab
- Denny McCarthy
Smalley is projected to score the most points among those golfers according to Awesemo’s PGA DFS projections, with a projected score of 58.8 points. Be sure to check out how all of the Awesemo experts are ranking these golfers in the Pro Plays Tool.
