Finding the right mix of low-owned golfers and chalk is critical when making your fantasy golf picks. With 144 players in the field at this week’s PGA Tour event at Copperhead, there will be plenty of opportunities to find golfers that not many gamers know about and create the edge necessary to score big at the 2022 Valspar Championship. Let’s break down some of the best against-the-grain picks for this week’s tournament, the last of the PGA Tour Florida swing.

PGA DFS Favorites: $9,000 and Above
- 14 golfers
There is a bit of a change here in the pricing algorithm, with 14 golfers priced at or above $9,000. Three of the 14 are projected for less than 10% ownership, which will be covered to in a bit. The other 11 all have at least 10% ownership, with three getting over 20%: Justin Thomas, Viktor Hovland and Matthew Fitzpatrick. With gamers being more informed, it’s easy to see why most would write off Fitzpatrick’s performance last week as he trends towards the 25%-owned range. Thomas is as well, and though he hasn’t played quite his top-end golf yet, he has looked consistent at the same time. Then there’s Hovland, who seems to be right on the doorstep of a win and came in third here last year in his first trip. He could push 30% in most spots.
Tyrrell Hatton, Dustin Johnson, Collin Morikawa and defending champion Sam Burns check in next, all projected to be owned between 15% and 20%. Shane Lowry, Abraham Ancer, Xander Schauffele and Louis Oosthuizen are the remaining four golfers that should be owned over 10% from this price range.
Top Contrarian Fantasy Golf Picks
Of the three names that are likely to be owned at or under 10%, Jason Kokrak is the only one trending towards that 10% number. The other two, Tommy Fleetwood and Brooks Koepka, are firmly at 5%. Kokrak has a very solid history here at the Valspar Championship, with three top-13s in the last three years, but his price is a bit of a premium. Koepka hasn’t played here since 2014, when he missed the cut, and Fleetwood will be making his first start at the event. So recent form would suggest Fleetwood isn’t too far off, but he will need to turn things around with his putter before he loses his tee-to-green game again. Koepka, on the other hand, hasn’t found top form yet and would surely like to get a taste of the lead before heading to Augusta in a few weeks.

- 19 golfers
This is a top-heavy board, as it thins out quickly after these 33 golfers in the first two price ranges. Plenty of ownership is still to come, but no other golfers are projected to have more than 20% ownership. Keegan Bradley is coming off of his best finish since finishing second at last year’s Valspar, and he will get the closest to 20%. Then Adam Hadwin, a former winner here coming off a superb final round at the Players, will also get plenty of attention, as will Christiaan Bezuidenhout, but he’s likely the last name in the entire field that will be owned over 15%. Others that are trending toward 10-15% include:

- Kevin Kisner
- Brian Harman
Top Contrarian Fantasy Golf Picks
More names than usual will be owned under 10%, as Jason Day, Bubba Watson, Alex Noren, Harold Varner, Gary Woodland, Mackenzie Hughes, Bernd Wiesberger, Kevin Streelman, Jhonattan Vegas and Francesco Molinari all are projected for less than 10% ownership. There are a plethora of quality names on that list, but Woodland is the highest projected according to Awesemo’s PGA DFS Projections — 60.8 points, coming in just 0.1 above Noren.
