Looking for a way to learn Fantasy Golf without jumping in with both feet? We have a perfect solution for you. Yahoo and Yahoo Fantasy are offering a $15,000 freeroll called the PGA “Yahoo Cup.” This contest awards a winner for weekly events and one winner at the end of the season who has the most cumulative points. It will go for 39 weeks, with the lowest nine weeks of scoring being dropped from your total score. Each week also features a $150-to-first contest, making every round matter just as much as the last. So let’s dig into the best Fantasy Golf picks this week and DFS Golf value plays for the 2022 Valero Texas Open.
Course Preview: TPC San Antonio
The last stop before the trip to Augusta, the tour heads to a popular spot and destination — TPC San Antonio (Oaks Course). Part of a beautiful resort, the JW Marriot in San Antonio is a destination for everyone. With most golfers staying right on property, they get a first-hand look at the par-72, 7,500-yard setup. With similar yardages and distances to those playing next week at Augusta, the course ranks among the top 15 toughest setups each year.
Top Three Fantasy Golf Picks This Week for the 2022 Valero Texas Open
Bryson DeChambeau ($42)
It’s been almost eight months since DeChambeau has come in the top 10. For an elite golfer of his caliber and the fourth-ranked golfer in the world at the time of his last top 10, it’s a big-time slump. Notably, some of that time covers the PGA Tour’s offseason and much of this year when he’s been admittedly hurt. But he had a decent enough showing last week at the Match Play, and golfers of this caliber can flip a switch in a hurry. If that’s indeed the case with DeChambeau this week, he’ll be one of the best values on the slate.
Alex Smalley ($20)
Smalley took the challenging route to the PGA Tour, earning spots through Monday Qualifying. He made enough cuts and earned enough FedEx Cup points to get into the Korn Ferry Tour finals, where he earned his PGA Tour card. Now sitting 77th on the FedEx Cup points list, earning $815,000 in the process, Smalley has a level of comfort in his job. He is playing with a lot of confidence for a minimum-salary golfer, and he sets up well for this course, with his best attribute being off the tee.
Wyndham Clark ($20)
After near misses at the Bermuda Championship last year and the Honda Classic a few years ago, Clark hasn’t quite lived up to the hype surrounding him when he joined the tour. Nonetheless, he’s been easily able to secure his PGA Tour card for each season he’s been on tour, even without winning an event. He’s had a difficult two months in February and March, only making one cut in five starts. But the one made cut was last week at the Corales Championship, where he finished 22nd. So it may be a tad early on him, but there isn’t much risk associated with the pick at the minimum salary this week. Look to Clark in aggressive lineup builds with three stars and three scrubs. David Lipsky is another golfer playing well and is also at the minimum salary this week.
