Jason Rouslin

Awesemo's expert Yahoo Cup fantasy golf picks this week for the 2022 Players Championship, including the best value plays for DFS golf today

Looking for a way to learn Fantasy Golf without jumping in with both feet? We have a perfect solution for you. Yahoo and Yahoo Fantasy are offering a $15,000 freeroll called the PGA “Yahoo Cup.” This contest awards a winner for weekly events and one winner at the end of the season who has the most cumulative points. It will go for 39 weeks, with the lowest nine weeks of scoring being dropped from your total score. Each week also features a $150-to-first contest, making every round matter just as much as the last. So let’s dig into the best Fantasy Golf picks this week and DFS Golf value plays for the 2022 Players Championship.

Course Preview: TPC Sawgrass

TPC Sawgrass is the quintessential top-of-the-line PGA Tour golf course, with every aspect a player and fan could imagine. It features reachable par 5’s that have trouble lurking everywhere, a drivable par 4 with hazards looming left and difficult, long par 4’s that keep the scoring to a minimum. Then add in the variability of the 17th hole, and it is a mix for the perfect event. Golfers will need all parts of their game to be on display to become a Players champion.

Top Three Fantasy Golf Picks This Week for the 2022 Players Championship

Adam Scott ($33)

Statistics show that the weakest part of Scott’s game right now is his ability to hit the fairway with a driver. It bothered him so much that he added a 2 wood into the bag last week in lieu of a driver. He finished 26th while gaining around 2.5 strokes for the week off the tee. His problem was his irons, which is unlike him. With a bounce-back week in that category and continued success finding fairways off the tee, he is one of the best values at his salary.

Shane Lowry ($31)

An unfortunate Florida swell cost Lowry a chance at winning his first PGA Tour event. While Sepp Straka got his tee shot off before the swell arrived and was able to go for the green in two, Lowry did not. All in all, though, he played a great tournament, gaining strokes everywhere but around the green and hitting over 80% of his fairways for the week. With a top-10 at the Players already and conditions that should favor him, Lowry can hit his value just by getting to the weekend.

Gary Woodland ($21)

Woodland had a chance to win each of the last two events. After an eagle on 16 last week put him up by one shot, a par-par finish likely would have won him the tournament. But an unlucky break on 17 and another bogey on 18 cost him for the second week in a row. Coming to 18 at the Honda, he was -4 and made double on the par 5. So does this mean his top form is back and here to stay, or does the gas run out for a bit? Either way, his almost minimum price this week gives him the top value according to Awesemo’s PGA DFS Projections.

Yahoo Cup DFS Golf Lineup Fill-Ins

  • Rory McIlroy ($42)
  • Joaquin Niemann ($35)
  • Louis Oosthuizen ($37)

Jason established his roots in the littlest state that could...Rhode Island. But after 29 years of bitter cold, and only being able to play golf 4 months a year, upended those roots and moved to Florida. Now four years later, Jason is a husband to Sarah and father of two boys, James & Myles. A dog and more specifically Lab lover (Bella), he dedicates his time to serve as the lead of PGA content at In the time he is not diving into the PGA stats and covering this week's current tournament, you can find him researching and trading stocks, on the golf course, at Disney World, on a hike, or somewhere in between.
