Looking for a way to learn Fantasy Golf without jumping in with both feet? We have a perfect solution for you. Yahoo and Yahoo Fantasy are offering a $15,000 freeroll called the PGA “Yahoo Cup.” This contest awards a winner for weekly events and one winner at the end of the season who has the most cumulative points. It will go for 39 weeks, with the lowest nine weeks of scoring being dropped from your total score. Each week also features a $150-to-first contest, making every round matter just as much as the last. Let’s dig into the best Fantasy Golf picks this week and DFS Golf value plays for the Sentry Tournament of Champions.
Course Preview: Kapalua Plantation Course
An amazing piece of property located on the northwest corner of the island of Maui, the Kapalua Plantation Course offers sweeping views of the pacific. It is one of the hardest courses to walk, spanning almost 7,700 yards with huge elevation changes. The course also offers a unique setup with only three par 3s, adding up to a par-73 layout.
Top Three Fantasy Golf Picks This Week for the Sentry Tournament of Champions
Marc Leishman ($23)
With just one top 10 in the first nine starts of the season, Leishman was trending in the wrong direction. A top-five at the Masters got him back on track, however, and then he added a win at the team event in New Orleans with Australian countrymate Cameron Smith. After the win, the only two cuts he has missed since are majors — the British Open and PGA Championship — while adding three top-fives. He also has top-five here at the Sentry Tournament of Champions, solidifying his value at this salary.
Si Woo Kim ($20)
Arguably one of the three most volatile players in the field this week, Kim is notorious for big finishes and big withdrawals. Typically Kim’s withdrawals happen during the event, when he has fallen off the cliff and motivation to play golf has gone with it. But given his minimum salary of just $20 this week, and making the trip all the way to Hawaii, one can assume his motivation is at least high to start the tournament. His upside is greater than those in his salary range, and according to the Awesemo PGA DFS Projections he is the eighth-best value of all 39 golfers in the field this week. A few golfers that rank better than him in the projections that are viable plays this week are Joel Dahmen and Cam Davis.
Sungjae Im ($31)
When Im broke onto the tour a few years ago after setting the single-season money won record on the Korn Ferry Tour, he was praised for his consistency in making cuts and turning those made cuts into top-25 finishes. He is on one of those patterned Im runs, where he has not missed a cut since the Palmetto Championship and has not finished outside the top 50 in any event. He has 14 straight made cuts over that span, with four top-10s, one win and nine of 14 events finishing in the top 25. Lastly, in his first trip out to Maui last year he came in a tie for fifth, one of the better finishes among first-time participants.
