This column a quick hitter article, to give you the stats you need to make informed decisions for your fantasy golf, PGA DFS lineups, and give you a couple of recommendations.
DraftKings is offering 10K to first place for tomorrow’s Round 4 slate.
Tournament Update:Â Round 1-3
Well, if you left a bunch of salary on the table, or stacked Glover and Morikawa, then you love this leaderboard. If you didn’t, then you might hate this leaderboard. One should expect this at the John Deere Classic where we have almost 20 golfers within five of the lead.
- Scoring Average:
- 69.46 or -1.56

It’ll be a beautiful day for golf in Illinois tomorrow.
Round 3 CommentaryÂ
If your lineups started the day with Jonathan Vegas & Russell Henley (like my one and only good line of the week), then you had a miserable Saturday on the links. The two combined to shoot four over, on a day where the scoring average was almost a full two under par. That’s atrocious.
Cameron Tringale put together another spectacular round gaining five strokes tee to green but was more human with the putter losing almost a half a stroke. Andrew Landry maintained form despite playing with Vegas who stunk it up out there today. Adam Schenk also finds himself in T3 just one back along with tour vet Bill Haas.Â
Onto the best stat of our model, and that’s the strokes gained ball striking vs. Putting stat. These golfers are ones that are striking the ball good enough to come in the top 10 of the tournament but are putting so poorly it’s likely they’ve left themselves with no chance. Kelly Kraft leads the category, losing almost six strokes over the first three rounds with his putter, Martin Laird isn’t far behind as well as Talor Gooch ( who mdf’d) Ryan Moore, Seth Reeves, and an honorable mention to Collin Morikawa.Â

Final Round Showdown PicksÂ
*Focusing on golfers outside the top-10.
Stud Pick
Well this is one is pretty easy for me as Morikawa ranks first in the model, and currently sits outside the top 10. So we’ll save his write up for later and turn our attention to Daniel Berger, who had a nice bounce back in the middle of his round, and also sits just four back and one outside the top 10. If you don’t like either of them, Ryan Moore ranks second in the model and also sits outside the current top 10. He also gained over five strokes tee to green in yesterdays round.
Collin Morikawa ($10,600)
The run of impressive golf is not ending this week, and maybe anytime soon. He gained another 3.41 strokes tee to green today and almost four with his approach. He’s been mighty strong with the irons since turning pro, and likely a big reason why he’s about to earn his full PGA Tour card after tomorrow. Pretty remarkable. If he finds the putter tomorrow, he actually could win.
Value Pick
Also tied with Berger and Morikawa is Sepp Straka, who continues his impressive run of good ball striking, gaining another 2.1 strokes in that category today. He is the top-rated golfer under 8K that isn’t inside the top 10 and only sits behind Roger Sloan, whos inside the top 10. Nate Lashley also pieced together a nice round today shooting a six under 65 and has seemed to find his touch again with the putter this week.
Brice Garnett ($7,400)
Another good round tee to green for Brice in round three has us heading back there in round four. He’s only seven back, which likely means he can’t’ win, but he can certainly go out there and improve his finishing position quite a bit. He’s been good at everything at least one round this tournament, so let’s see if he can put it all together for the last round.
Sneaky Pick
Scott Stallings ($6,700)
All three rounds in the ’60s and each one he’s gotten better. Stallings is averaging over two strokes gained from tee to green over the first three rounds, with his approaches getting over half of that. He found his putter in round three finally, gaining six-tenths of a stroke, and if he repeats that performance with his tee to green one tomorrow, he could finish inside the top 5.
Lineup Fill-InsÂ
Daniel Berger ($9,700)
Bud Cauley ($8,600)
Sepp Straka ($7,200)
Wes Roach ($6,700)
