Golf betting is on the rise in the U.S. but has been very prevalent across the pond for some time, both with the European Tour and the PGA Tour. The European Tour heads to the desert for a couple of weeks. These tournaments typically bring a very strong field, and that’s no different here this week with No. 1 golfer in the world Brooks Koepka teeing it up. He’s joined by a pair of Americans, Patrick Cantlay and Bryson DeChambeau. Other Euro Tour/PGA Tour players add even more class to this field, including Tommy Fleetwood, Viktor Hovland, Matthew Fitzpatrick, Louis Oosthuizen and Open Champion Shane Lowry.Â
The golf course is a typical desert course — think TPC Summerlin — that measures about 7,600 yards and plays to a par 72. The event is a typical event for the European Tour with just over 140 golfers competing and the top 65 and ties making the weekend.

European Tour Golf Betting Player Focus
Mattias Schwab (40/1 Outright)
Stop me if you’ve seen me write this guy up before. Schwab had a great stretch and overall a great season on the Euro Tour last year. He was so close to a win a couple of times, riding a hot approach game almost the entire season. He came in 22nd here last year in his first start, showing a bit of comfort and I like him to beat that handily this year. With Kopeka just coming back from injury, DeChambeau lifting weights and Cantlay’s first time over here, Schwab has a better chance to cross the finish line here in the desert this week.
His odds are in order from outright to top 20: 40/1, 8/1, 4/1, +150
Guido Migliozzi (110/1 Outright)
I certainly wasn’t the first to discover this guy, but I’m not the last either. He had a great rookie campaign on the Euro Tour, getting two wins on the season and four other top 20s. At a course that rewards good ball strikers, Migliozzi ranks right up there with the best of them in that category, finishing inside the top 10 for shots gained both off the tee and on approaches last season. Well, maybe I’m giving him a place off the tee, as he came in 11th, just .01 behind Robert MacIntyre, who withdrew from this week’s event.
His odds are in order from outright to top 20: 110/1, 20/1, 10/1, 4/1.
Rasa’s Euro Corner
Although we don’t focus on Euro Tour that much, both Ben and I love a little Euro sweat. Here’s Ben’s bet for the week:
Thomas Detry (50/1 Outright)Â
Thomas Pieters is a Belgian who always has mega upside, but don’t forget about his fellow countrymen in Detry. He finished strong last year with second-, third- and fourth-place finishes over the last four events and has all the talent you need to compete in a field of this strength. Detry also played last week in South Africa so we aren’t flying blind in terms of recent form and he has some experience playing in this event. He is worth a shot if you are looking for a dark horse to get in contention.
His odds are in order from outright to top 20: 50/1, 10/1, 5/1, 2/1.

Golf Betting Matchup
Ian Poulter (-150) vs. Charl Schwartzel
My theory on Schwartzel last week was that the oddsmakers are pricing him to be back to form, based on his top five at his home course a few weeks ago. I’m not buying. Poulter has been steady for quite a while now with maybe a tad bit of regression of the last recent bit. But against Schwartzel, I’ll still ride the hot-headed Poulter, even at -150.
